I wrote a review of this game around 2 years ago when I first tried it and gave it a mixed review, saying it was fun but I disliked the matchmaking.
After spending some more time in game and paying closer attention to how the mechanics work my view has changed enough to rewrite this review, so here goes.
First, the game is funny. The dialog, the improvised weapons, the character models, pretty much everything is designed to give off this vary silly feeling. I mean you're playing as a group of psychos who run around pretending to be Batman or the Joker, shooting each other.
Pretty much everything (save for a few things like 3 costume sets and some the mascots (which do nothing)) can be gotten in-game throuigh grinding. It takes a while, but it can be done. The DLC are only there to make it faster, and nothing is really OP there since they're all in game anyway. So as far as F2P goes this is a pretty fair business model.
Matchmaking is decent, but there are no dedicated servers, so connectivity can be spotty and you might get dropped depending on various factors.
As a shooter there's not much new here outside how some of the gadgets work, but the rest is par for the course in FPS titles. The guns don't have a lot of recoil, but you still need to be mindful of effective range.
In all this is a compatent shooter for anyone looking for such. It's not gonna overtake something like CS:GO and it doesn't really do much new compared to others games, but it's quirky, funny with a focus on customization and solid gameplay that make it worth at least looking into if you're a fan of shooters.
My only gripe is in the body types and how they're gender locked, with only one being female. It's not a huge deal, but it would have been nice to have the option to choose. Also, you can't pick your team, and while loadouts are universal, costumes are not, so don't spend all your earned costume coins on just one faction because you will switch between the two often.
