I'm going to catch a lot of flak for this review, but I'm going to post it anyway.
Let me first just say that the concept of this game is brilliant: Batmans versus Jokers. I mean, that alone should be enough to salvage this game. But it isn't.
The different effects you can get in this game are ALSO great. The grappling hook is great fun.
However, I have several problems with this game.
First of all, it seems to lag ALL of the time. At first, I thought it was my computer, but it seems as if other people have had this problem as well, and they said it was a server issue. I have no idea, and perhaps, if I had a better computer (it plays TF2 just fine, so it SHOULD play this one as well), it would run more smoothly. But as it stands, it does NOT, and it makes the game difficult to play.
Another problem that I have with the game is the color scheme. It makes me nauseous even after a short period of time. The colors selected would work for a movie, and they'd work for a stealth game, but NOT a game where you're moving the camera around all of the time. The colors just make me SICK at times.
The game mechanics are very similar to F.E.A.R. Online, and points are taken away for that. It doesn't feel as smooth as TF2. And it's just plain BORING the way that the character moves. When the character moves, I want to have fun, as moving is a big part of almost EVERY game. But it's just kind of boring, the mechanics of the movement. And, as I said, it feels very similar to F.E.A.R. Online, and I hated that game as well: the movement mechanics a big part of that. If you want to understand what I mean: the Quake engine is what makes Quake games. That's what makes those games so addictive and fun. Likewise, with TF2, the characters move in different ways, and it's very fun to slide and jump with the Scout, adjust your gameplan to the slowness of the Heavy, etc. But the movement in this game is just rather bland and boring. I'm a big fan of the way the characters move in the game, and this did not deliver to me.
It's hard to distinguish teammates from enemies because of the colors of the background. The backgrounds, although they look realistic, makes it hard to distinguish things. The gameplay is just alright. Nowhere NEAR as fun as TF2 (or Urban Terror: ANOTHER game that I play a ton of).
It just felt like a generic FPS (F.E.A.R. Online), and it gets old fast. Not a lot of replay value for this game.
I'm sure a lot of people like this game, but honestly, it just isn't for me.
