When you know you shouldn't be lagging that bad...
This little guide is meant for anyone experiencing a "less than 3 bar" reading off a "more than capable" connection like ADSL2. Here's a VERY possible fix...

1) run Gotham City Impostors (either through Steam or .exe, doesn't really matter)
2) before starting a game, hit ctrl+alt+del to bring up your task manager
3) click on the Processes tab
4) right-click on "Engine" and "Impostors" and set their Priorities to HIGH

If you're like me, I started off only tweaking "Engine" because that's what some online guides said to do. That honestly doesn't help at all. The trick here is to do them both! Wish I found out sooner (all those unjustified deaths due to lag)...

Good luck to all and have lots of fun with this game (it's a great game)!

P.S. A bunch of people I've encountered, claimed I was only able to own when I hosted (due to my initially unoptimized connection). But this slight tweak has since allowed me to string them all up vertically... throat to behind... with my *object (that will not be named)... fair and square. :)

Have you got to do this everytime you start the game or is it a "set and forget" ?

Everytime unfortunately!

No problem! Small price to pay for a big improvement in performance IMO :)

I am having a small problem with this. I only use it when the lag is really bad, but people think I'm a hacker as it gives everyone else a bad connection. I have been asked to leave a few games.

I am NOT a hacker by any stretch of anyones imagination, I don't want to get reported or banned so I won't be using it again.

Hmm... it really shouldn't give anyone else a bad connection. Maybe it's because your connection is bad to begin with. Remember, it doesn't magically turn your dial-up into a ADSL2

I'm on a 20mb cable from Virginmedia. It must have an effect on others as the more experienced pick up on it almost immediately. Someone called it the Detroit Connection, and said I had 3 bars and every player dropped when I joined the game, but I remained at 3.
If it gives an unfair advantage then I can't use it.

This is not a cure-all for your lag issues. There are several other factors to consider... like OS, system config, ISP, modem/router... etc. I'm sorry if it doesn't work for you, but it most definitely ain't a 'hack' of any sort lol

By changing the priorities, does this make your computer the "host" ?
Harvester of Sorrow Jan 7, 2013 @ 3:30pm
No it doesnt make it the "host." That is always random. Unfortunately. But I tried this and it didnt help at all, seemed to make it slower for me in fact.

This simple tweak just allows your computer to assign more resources to the program
