Just Bought it 3 hours ago... as far as I can tell, think of it as Dragon age, BUT but without the graphics... I would say, Baldurs Gate has even better graphics. However, gameplay and scope are great!, character development is good, and lots of reading, which you can... well... read or skip.

Solid turn based combat... etc.
It took me 10 minutes to get used to the graphics... but well worth it!
I love fantasy games where you can use magic, and I'm certainly going to finish Avernum 6 :)
(at some point because it's huge...)

Running in W7, 64 bit... No problem so far...

If you are a true fan of RPG's

and your Oldschool

you will ABSOLUTELY LOVE everything avernum brings to the table!

I fell in love with Spiderweb software way back when "Freeware" was all the rage, and you could get a freeware copy of Exiles2 or 3 to try before you buy.

absolutly amazing gameplay and story. Dont let 2d older graphics throw you off. Read the story and become truely immersed in the world it conveys.

The combat is hard... but its supposed to be. Its tactical, its brutal... but with a little patience and some proper planning you will strike your foes down.

Pretty simplistic gameplay. Boring settings and stories (generic is the word), utter diarrhea map design, generic art direction. Annoying (and unfortunately mandatory, as you find yourself fast underleveled to beat the next mq without them done) side quests. You will often walk randomly in the area to trigger a script to push a quest, or searching that God damn npc who's walking around great distances (the trader who's looking for the lost pack lizard, FFFUUU). Quite a fun combat. Respawning trash mobs. Worth ~0,50€ for the trilogy. (I own Geneforge and other games non-steam).

Well worth the money. Just don't expect high end graphics. Deep storylines, unique settings. If you get the entire bundle, you're guaranteed hours of gameplay

Wow Adolf, way to rip on a game.

Did you even enjoy Baldur's Gate? Did you not get blown away by Mulahey or turned to stone by basilisks and have to seek out the Beregost Temple to buy Stone to Flesh scrolls to revive your downed party members?

And furthermore if you call the game simplistic then I can see why you didn't like it, because it's not. I guess you don't like reading or involving yourself in a game's story because the setting is far from boring and the side quests are not meaningless.

Not enough flashy lights for you, I guess. I will agree with the sidequests being fairly mandatory though, you'll regret not reaping their rewards, both in items and in XP, but what RPG worth its salt doesn't have you seek a way to empower your character to tackle the next obstacle? The good thing about Avernum is if something is too tough (like any other RPG including Skyrim COUGH), you can turn around and go in another direction with the intention of revisiting said tough fight at a later time.

And generic art direction... It's a game made by a very small team of people who have been using the same engine or derivatives of it for 20 years. They've done things to spruce up the graphics of late, but they're meant to be serviceable and they're better than just about any roguelike out there. Because, the main draw here is the story and the party-based combat, which flew right over your head.

If you loved Baldur's Gate and Fallout, there's very little not to like about this game.

Short answer: yesit'sworthit.

Long answer: Yes, it's worth it.

You are butthurt about me not praising everything this game is (long descriptions and dialogues don't make a "good" writing but that's a fact majority of wannabe highbrows are still unable to understand), and paranoiac too, because I didn't say I disliked this game (it's not a rougelike, by the way).

That's true. It was very clear that you gave a good description of the game while Firespite merely launched personal attacks against you for absolutely no reason at all.

Not to revive the dead here or anything, but did you play the other Avernum games? Or the original 3 Exile games? Generally, these games are packed full of lore, and other fun little bits. I still love the "Strange metal" you found with the Orb in the third one. ♥♥♥♥ ends up being Uranium. lol

What "long descriptions and dialog"?

Spiderweb writing is textbook stylistically. There's no needless verbiage or exposition.

I guess you could wrangle that into criticism: Jeff Vogel is too much the hyper-competant craftsman?

If you're taking a dude named "Adolf Stalin" seriously, you probably need to get off the internet.

Best rpg series that I have played recently by far.
