How to do a trick using an XBOX controller

Maybe im just dumb, and i am willing to take that as an explanation, but how do i do a trick using my controller. i tried looking at the controls (which showed me how to spray grafitti) but that shows nothing about tricks. the 'how to play' didnt give me any new information. i really hope the answer isnt 'you dont, use your keyboard.'

never mind... i tried doing the tutorila, instead of start a new game, and i figured it out.
