Yesterday starts off weird and only gets weirder. By the end, I was thorougly engaged and wanted to play some more. It was then that it dawned on me that Yesterday is actually a bit of a chore to play through. Which is unfortunate, because the story develops in some very interesting and unexpected ways. In the end I just watched the endings on YouTube and that was good enough.
Thankfully, Yesterday offers some utilites in-game to ease the traditional "Oh god what am I supposed to do better just click everything" method of progression that comes naturally with most point 'n' clickers. A button on the UI temporarily shows you every interactive element on the current screen, for example. Very handy, but also leads to a routine of hammering the button at every available opportunity just to figure out what you're supposed to be clicking next. There are some other nice touches, like having the player character phase over to a far off spot on the map instead of making you watch them slowly walk over there. Both are helpful additions to the game but unfortunately not enough to prevent some fatigue setting in later on in the game when solutions to challenges are harder to come by.
If you can bear sitting through some inoffensive and occasionally frustrating gameplay then I definitely recommend you check it out. The story more than makes up for it.
