Warhammer® 40,000™: Dawn of War® II - Chaos Rising™

Steam please fix DOW2 and DOW2 Chaos Rising launching issues
I am hoping Steam will be the big dog here and disable the link between Games for Windows Live Marketplace (closed since Aug 2013) and Dawn of War 2 as well as its expansion Chaos Rising. This is probably something that Microsoft or Relic needs to patch in but Steam has to put some pressure on them to fix this game which is not working at all for many customers out there.

I have all 3 DOW2 titles including the latest, Retribution. Retribution is fine because there is no GFWL login requirement. However the older two titles just come up with a launch error whenever i try to launch the game even when logged into a Live gamertag account throught the Games for Windows Live Marketplace client.

Yes, all files are validated and i have even deleted the steam/appcache folder as was suggested in a forum elsewhere.

Wondering just how many of you are out there who have bought Chaos Rising (and Dawn of War 2) on steam and now cannot play. Or perhaps there is some mystical, technical genius move that we all must know before we can play what we paid for.

The death of Games for Windows Live is a great thing for PC gaming, However i refuse to let it take some classic games with it to the grave!

This needs to be taken up with Sega, as they currently own Relic. Steam can't do anything, legally, and Relic can't just do it on their own (would have to take resources away from whatever they're currently working on, which would probably need Sega's okay).

Games for Windows LIVE is still running, it will shut down later this year, though. DoW2 and DoW2 Chaos Rising are still fully functional at the moment. The Marketplace closing down doesn't affect functionality of games that use GfWL. At the very least Retribution is on Steamworks because Relic decided to move from GfWL (for other reasons, but in hindsight it's pretty good timing)..

Dude that really sucks and its just unlucky that your first game on steam had to be a former Windows Live game. I still cant get DOW2 and Choas Rising working (got a hard copy of DOW2 AS WELL as the steam version. If steam doesnt fix this soon then ill have to go looking for this torrent because im fed up with Games for Windows Live Marketplace support (its all XBOX Live now btw). So stupid i cant play two games i paid for.

I feel your pain

weird thing, I bought dow II, and what do we have now? The game without any possibility to play...cool story, I have wasted my money, where is my money back?

Grrr, I just reinstalled it to go back and play through all three and ran into the GFWL wall as well.

Just reinstalled my computer, downloaded DoW2 and got it booted without ANY problem. GFWL popped up normally and told me there's an update available. That one downloaded normally as well and I can play DoW2 as I used to.

Only thing that I am concerned about it what will happen after July 1st. No more GFWL, but will I still be able to play DoW2 after that date? Also, what will happen to my saved games? afaik DoW2 saved on GFWL cloud, right?

BTW, if you want GFWL latest working client - download it from my Dropbox[www.dropbox.com]

As i see this is not just an issue with me, as i have just done the same as i see all of you have done and am trying to get Chaos rising to work but am hitting the issue where it looks like i have gone and wasted my money. In law, a guarantee is an agreement given by a trader to a consumer, without any extra charge, to repair, replace or refund on goods which do not meet the specifications set out in the guarantee. With there being nothing wrong with the game but instead with the server where as windows live is no longer allowing us the consumer tp play on a game that we have purchased in good faith that it will work with no issues. We the consumer are entiteled to a full refund. I want my money back.

Yep. And if you live in a country like Australia there are laws against this like the Australian Consumer Law 2011

Same issue

The requeriments to solve your problem are:

Install the last version of GFWL client and you password only contains alphanumeric characters, that is all.

And wait for steamwork support

Thanks for the comment Raskaipika. But i have tried this already.
