Cyber_Donkey Oct 23, 2012 @ 7:47pm
It doesn't work. There are promised features disabled, and I can't even play it.
Cyber_Donkey Oct 23, 2012 @ 7:47pm
Also, they've just gone out of business, so they won't be fixing it.

so i think we could al least try to call upon the power of the modding community

This is some sad stuff. I've been looking for Homeworld RTS game since I finished playing that game years ago and now they screw us over with this game to royal Space RTS fans.

Re the modding community, I wouldn't worry about legal action coming from a company which has gone defunct.

This reminds me of a Similar situation, were game was forced to relies. Its Company to went bankrupt and if I remember correctly, it was passed around like a bad flue from its new owners. They also didn't want to finish the game correctly. But after a few years, and several modding community and the love of its original programer to his project, it turn out to be one of the best insider games ever. So there’s always hope, and if you're still wondering which game I’m talking about, its “Vampire the Masquerade”. Another point why I’m still interested in this game. Is that it reminds me of an old game, that I still love to play every now and then, witch is similarly build to this one. “Ascendancy”

Very much like “Ascendancy” which is why I was hoping this game would turn out to be awesome, I would of even been happy with merely an updated graphics version of Ascendancy. But sadly it is far too buggy to be fun to play, and the 1 AI you can add is always too easy to kill.

The long version:

The game had lots of potential and lots of cool ideas (not necissarily unique or innovative, but positiioned to be very well executed.) I mean, for 4x fans, it looks really cool and like something that would be really fun to play. The images and video on the Steam Store page even look like it is a really well polished game.

The problem is that the game was never finished. Everything you see is basically concept work. Sure, some of it is in the game, but it doesn't represent the actual game experience. It is like a bunch of unconnected islands that, if build out, could make a really cool continent, but in reality you just end up swimming. With sharks. And a knife in your leg.

The developers had a lot of potential, and a lot of good intention. But for whatever reason they released it 6-12 months too early, and then went bankrupt because the publisher pulled out and fans wouldn't support an unfinished product.

So, when you play it, you can't do multiplayer, there's no functional AI, the single player campaign is broken so you can't get past a certian point. And a lot of the neat functionality you see in the game is either broken, buggy, not impimented yet, or not actually useful to your progress. And it is all code-level stuff, so unless someone is able to get the source code from the developer and approval from the publisher, mods will never be able to fix what's missing.

So overall, you might be able to get a few hours out of it. Enough to see the potential that it had. And enough to be very, very disappointed in the result.

But, on the bright side, if you have already purchased it (or pre-ordered, like me) Steam will actually refund your money here (store credit), as a one-time thing.
