Note: I played this using the Pure Faction Mod to increase the resolution to widescreen 1080p, which is why Steam shows no plat time.
I originally played this game when the demo was released before the game went on sale. I thought it was amazing, blowing holes through terrain to create other paths through the mines and gameplay in the Half Life vein. I never got to play past the mines and for some reason never bought the game even though I loved the demo. Playing it now I can see what a missed opportunity the game was. After the mines the game takes a turn for the worst, with the destructability and improvisation of the mines replaced by static office environments with no destructabilty or walls that can be destroyed looking the same as walls that can't. The levels turn into box shaped rooms with hardly any detail and just feel empty by design. The weapons for the most part are pretty good except for the weak feeling pistol but it still takes a lot of ammo to put down the enemies even with the bigger weapons and so can make them feel weak.
The acting in the game is also terrible, back when the game was released it may have been acceptable and I'm just spoiled by todays voice work in games but it's bordering on Resident Evil quality.
I'm still recommending this game to anyone who wants to get into the Red Faction series because there are plot points continued through the sequel it would be useful to know but don't expect it to be a good experience because the game has not aged well.
