Can I use the dpad to move?
I'm using a PS3 pad with motioninjoy in 360 mode. Why can't I map the movement to the d-pad?

Your gamepad is NOT a true XNA input controller.

This is the problem of motioninjoy. It CANNOT trully make it work as a 360 controller.

The only way to do that would be to get a 360 controller. As the "360 mode" is just gimmick and the game will not reconize it as XNA anyway.

Except it's totally been working as a 360 controller in every game I've tried.

If your going for x360 controller consider the Logitech F710 the same as advertised by steam It is absolutely awesome and yes it has a xna/direct input. and a cool feature it has that with a push of a button you switch the left analog stick with the dpad

The problem is that dpad looks horrendous and my PS3 controller already works perfectly fine in 360 mode. It's just that this game will only allow you to map movement to the left stick.

Any controller with full Xinput support will do, e.g. Logitech F510 or F710. I have yet to find a game that has any issues with the F510 (which I use), and I'm glad because I much prefer PS-style controllers (I have an xbox one, used it for about five hours but didn't like the "feel" of it -- just a matter of preference). Hell Yeah is no exception.

You guys, you guys an ACTUAL PS3 controller can emulate a 360 one. I do it like every single day. I only want to know why this game won't let you map movement to the dpad.

It's because of XNA, XNA game don't really run on windows... they run on XNA that runs on windows...
So emulaton and windows function are not usable buy the game because there is a layer of XNA inbetween.

I'm using it in game. It works flawlessly. It is just this game is not allowing me to take the left stick's function and swap it with the dpads.

Forget I EVER said I'm using a PS3 pad under emulation.

I really wish this game had a working button config for controllers. The controller layout is not all that well thought out. For example, jumping and shooting. The expect me to hold B, while holding the right stick in a direction? Anyone else see a problem here? Maybe the game is designed for people with two right thumbs. I can't even use fingertips to hold B and the stick, since I also need to press the right trigger to fire. Seriously?

As someone with a 360 controller, I get the "Cannot map Action to this button" prompt when I try to map movement to the DPad. So, no, it's not just you. The best way around this I would guess (I don't mind using the stick) is to use something like Xpadder or x360ce to swap the Left Stick and Dpad around.

I didn't think it was just me.

Couldn't they map in a native button mapper?

Yeah, it's quite annoying that you can't re-map gamepad controls. I only want to switch the left trigger and A buttons; I find a significant disadvantage and detriment from not being able to easily jump and aim at the same time. I would use a gamepad profiler, but that's a pain to just swap two buttons. Or I could just use the keyboard+mouse, since you can aim and jump easily with that.. except I got this game to play with a gamepad! Major flaw here, imo.

Also, ugh, people really shouldn't try to answer a question before understanding it. I feel your pain Smashbro.

For the record, when using a PS3 controller, the PC can be fooled into thinking the Dualshock3 is truly a 360 pad. They do function exactly the same, hence 'emulation'.

So we should probably ask the nice SEGA people for a button config. Shouldn't be that hard to do right?
