Eldritch whales and an equally alien brand of black magic, a deadly plague and a bloody chain of events sparked by the death of an Empress and the disappearance of her daughter. Dishonored
is dark, visceral and at times outright disgusting with how filthy the environments are. Yet at the same time this game is absolutely gorgeous, from its aesthetic design to its soundtrack.
Dishonored is absolutely rich with detail, from the technology powering the city of Dunwall to the strange world the Outsider draws you into, and the powers he grants you. A lot of love was put into building this world, and it really pays off to explore the locations you are sent to – in the literal sense as well as the figurative, for there are many bonus rewards (Runes, Whale bone charms, etc) hidden throughout each area. Hell, even eavesdropping on the NPCS and enemies has its benefits, for the characters' dialogue will change depending on your actions and how Chaotic Dunwall is because of said actions. Plus it's a handy way to learn secrets and additional information about your current objectives.
Every time I start this game over I find myself taking different routes towards my targets; from the tiny rat tunnels to the rooftops, there's always some new, alternate way to get to the sorry ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you've been assigned to kill, plus there are a dozen different ways to kill said targets. Assassinating is cinematic and satisfying, and the animations fluid. However the more enemies there are the harder it gets to fight back, so it really is better to avoid large scale confrontations. Unless of course you have the very expensive yet extremely useful Lvl 2 Time Warp ability. Then it's a walk in the park.
I could seriously sing praise to this game for paragraphs, but I will keep this review short.
Although I have been told it is not the absolute best stealth game on the market, it is my favourite one to date. 10/10!
