BIT.TRIP CORE
Exploration became suddenly unplayable!
Hi all, I have a BIG problem with this game. Suddenly, after 4-5 hours of gameplay, the game started working very weird. At first I thought I was too stoned, but no, it's definitely a bug or something.
I played this game enough to be able to beat the first section of the second level with my eyes closed, and now I can't do anything!
The problem happens just in Exploration and (seems) Control, Discovery works fine.
I uploaded a video here wich shows how these levels are unplayable while the first one works normally: http://youtu.be/v4KW9ZoAW_8

It happened all the sudden, and I tried:
-restarting my PC
-uninstalling the game and re-downloading it (even deleting my savegames and disabling Cloud)
-using Windows 7 wich is in another partition

My PC specs:
OS:Windows XP SP3
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 245 - 2,91 GHz
Memory: 2,00 GB RAM
Graphics: GeForce GT 630

Any idea of what could be the cause?

Something similar happened to me when I tried to mod the game's music. As it turns out, the game relies on the bitrate of the Ogg files to determine timing of many beats. So if you want to mod CORE you need to create Ogg files that have exactly the same bitrate as the ones you're replacing.

The only thing I can think of is this: Did you recently install a new audio codec, perhaps one that plays Ogg files differently?
Mmm no I didn't as far as I know, but since I use many video and audio editing software could be some of these that messed things up, but it's strange anyway since I have the same problem on both OS.
I just tried reinstalling ogg codecs and didn't work.

Thanks a lot for the help anyway
For whatever reason the game now works normally, seems it has fixed itself. I am an happy person now.
And now it doesn't work again, well...
Steam's BIT.TRIP CORE is apparently a bad port. The one on the WiiWare/NintendoShop is very VERY responsive.
Well it worked really good, for a while at least...
From the movie, it looks like the music becomes un-synched with the beats? If so, yeah, we had lots of problems related to getting the timing *just right* on all sorts of system configurations. In the end, some hack was put in so that the timing worked on all of the machines we tested it on. (The advantage of a Wii is that it's fixed hardware, and once it works on the Wii, it Just Works(tm) forever on all Wiis of the world.) I wasn't the guy to do that timing-related bug fixing (I did the rest of the port, though), so I don't know what other causes could make the music get un-syched other than some audio driver behavior that we didn't expect?

It's actually more complicated than that as now, and even harder to explain (I should make another video maybe). Most of the music doesn't play, I just hear the...urhmm...base music, the one wich (I think) is the same for the whole song, but no other layers play over it. And guess what, now all levels seems to suffer from the same bug; i have really no idea of how it happened.
I tried with pratically two different sound cards too, because my USB speakers are considered another device by Windows and they do not use the same drivers as my soundblaster. I also changed GPU in the meantime but the problem is still the same...

PS: at least BEAT and VOID do work fine for now:smile:

Huh, weird. It's been a while since I had worked on CORE, but I *think* all the music plays as a single audio clip (that switches to a different audio clip based on which subsection of the level you are on and which mode you are in). I would be curious if you experience the same problem if you just directly played the audio clip in a few different music players (Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc.). The .ogg files live in: Core\Sounds\Music\Level1 (and Level2 and Level3) under the root directory where the Steam CORE install lives.

BEAT and VOID use the same in-game audio tech, as well as Runner and FATE (and soon-to-be-released FLUX), so it's extra odd if only one of the games gives you issue.
Yeah already tried listening to them and nothing seems wrong, but since I had to re-download the whole game to do it I tried and now seems working fine again. Weird...
Heisenbugs, sigh.. always the best. NOT. :)
I also feel the same like you but the shot is that it only happens to me on the laptop (dual core 2.3GHz with 3GB of RAM and 512MB of graphics class 4) If the gaming tower (Quad 3.8 GHz with 8GB of RAM and 2GB of Graphics Class 1) not have any type of problem occurs. Neither the delay nor the cross-synchronized. Which by the way in Bit trip Beat and Void also makes me weird things like delays and slowdowns but I say that the gaming tower does not give me any problems any of the 3 games. Try a better Hardware from a friend or relative or buy.
google translator.

Do not have any, but do not need it either anymore :P ...
I modded BEAT whith the EXPLORATION music replacing GROWTH and it seems to be fine.
I just had the same problem: the blinking green dots were not matching the music
