Audio resets every time the game loads?

The original volume levels for the game were pretty loud for my PC, so I turned them down in the settings menu no problem. Close the game, come back later and the music and sounds are playing at the original volume regardless of what the settings are? The default is what, 8 bars out of 10. I had it set to 2 bars out of 10. I lowered the volume down to 1 bar and the sound snapped straight from about 8 bars to 1, even though it was originally just at 2. Seriously?

Sigh... looks you have to set the volume through windows or mute the game if this is the way it's gonna go.

Oh, there's also no way to exit out of a challenge without waiting for the timer to expire? That's fairly disappointing... at least it's fun how the story tries to be meta. I don't see what the point of the side objectives is anyway.
