OMG this is the worst strategic RPG I have ever played
I've been through Spellforce and Kingsbounty, so have a decent SRPG background. The game is OK, but too linear and prescribed for any individual enjoyment. If you want to walk the game producers path and cast spells in a very directed and ordered way. You might enjoy the story. Good voice acting by the lead narrator is a plus.

Imposed limitations on actions, by spells and circumstances, like a character being knocked out, impose extraordinary limitations and hamper game play. Its as if the game knows your character development and reacts to it, as aposed to most games where you develope your character to the challenges you are presented with.

Because of this precieved design, this game feels like the encounters react cheaply; they take advantage of any weaknesses. It does not allow full awareness of enemies, like some JRPGs do. However, enemies seem to know how to best destroy your team.

Anyway, most reviewers hated the game, so I guess that I am confirming this horrible games Meta score. Good try to develope a team SRPG. Take away is, too linear, too constricted, too trite, and is an old-schooled attempt at a modern SRPG. You can get BG or NWN cheap! Much better and more enjoyable. Skip it

I agree that a BG2 or NWN2 would be better when compared to the current price of $19. Many of the recent positive comments came from people who picked it up as part of a Humble Bundle - I was personally quite pleased with the quality. They need to lower the msrp to be sure.

BTW, I think this game deserves some accolades above and beyond BG1 and NWN1. Those games are just too old now (and BG1 is rather juvenile imo). I suppose NWN1 with some mods might be acceptable though.

Yes, certainly BG1 and NWN1 seem/are dated. Yet are more well balanced and offer greater variety and flexability in how the game is played. The fresh gloss does not hide a hampered game, however.

I also have Spellforce and Kingsbounty, and I found this game easier to get into for some reason. I guess I just had a good first-time experience with this game. It also has a darker look and feel than any of the games you mentioned.

I don't see how the OP can compare this to kingsbounty. Has virtually nothing in common. I also hate the stacking of units that it and Might and magic does. Spellforce has maybe a bit more in common- minus the rts strategy base buiding and unit spamming parts which i didn't like.

Also not sure why you would complan if a game looks to take advantage of your parties weaknesses. Wouldn't everyone complain if they didn't? I like that you get limited mp and sp so can't just spam all your skills and have to think which are best for the situation. Another complaint from many reviewers was the lack of loot. Considering there are so many diablo clones which focus on that it seems stupid to want ye another game that focuses on better loot = easy win as opposed to tactics.

Yes it's overly linear and the pathfinding and targetting was not great but i don't think it deserved to be around 50 on metacritic. 58-64 would have been more fair i think.

Mike, thanks for your insights. I'm only comparring it to other SRPGs. Though I really feel that there is very little Stategy in the gameplay due to the constrained environments. That is the main reason I lump it in with MOM and KB. Spellforce gives huge battle arenas in comparison. Hence, loads of STRATEGIC options. To me, this creative effort is not fun, nor challenging. It is a frustrating mess that should never have been published.

Finally a honest reviewer. LOL. I share your pain but seriously if you brought it at full price you should look to at least give it a good go.

Thx for the other opinions. This game "looked" good, but turned out to be below par. Id rather stick to playing what I have in my library.

Omg, guys realy spellforce and kings bounty and you have decent SRPG exp? lol. This game is like a remake of a game i played... long ago. I think it was beginning of 90´s. was called Dungeon... something. This is a dungeon crawler not a SRPG ( Strategic Role Playing Game??? ). PPL used to make own maps on Paper when playing games like this... (bards tale 3). I mean i wouldn´t want to pay 20 bucks for this but its quite fun solving the riddles and having a retro feeling :) Maybe not realy something for the hackn slaye "rpg" genaration.
I looked for it... it was called Dungeon Master.

I never tried Dungeon Master so can't comment on direct experience with it. But, from what I saw on YouTube, Dungeon Master is more akin to Legend of Grimrock. One takeaway is that most modern video games have roots in the past and borrow elements from older games. I think it is called evolution, and I for one am grateful for it.

As for Confrontation being a "simple" dungeon crawler, I feel that there is a bit more depth in the fighting and spell casting than that.

Buy Aarklash: Legacy instead. Same setting, but strictly superior in every concievable way.

This is not spellforce and sure as hell not KB. This is a game that really should only be in an indie bundle, The intro was impressive but besides that, a huge letdown
