Note: I have only played the campaign so far and this review mainly covers my experience playing that.
Infested planet is an addicting top down sci-fi strategy game where you control a squad of marines and the ultimate objective is to wipe out all of the alien hives on the battlefield.
You have access to a wide arsenal of upgrades that can be purchased in the main menu via the shop for credits earned by beating missions. Getting the credits is not a grind either, but is also not too easy which is a big+. Great balance with this. Upgrades like these are new structures you can build to give more advantages and support for your marines like a helicopter strike, sentrygun or a medical pod.
Some upgrades are permanent and some tempoary. An example would be the extra marine upgrade which only lasts for one mission. After that you need to rebuy it to have the extra marine again. Other upgrades like new structures are permanent.
As you advance the missions become increasingly harder with different alien mutations that can change the style of battle and force you to change your tactics. This is a big + for replayability and entertainment.
Also the soundtrack is awesome and epic to listen to while you are battling against the seemingly endless swarm of aliens.
Closest thing to a starship troopers strategy game i'll probably ever play.
