Infested planet is a nice twist to the RTS genre. This time around you get small squad of tough guys and need to fight thousands of insecoid aliens. The closest thing I can compare it to would be perhaps Terran vs Zerg in Starcraft, but taken to extreme.
The game mechanics are very well designed, missions are tough, especially later in the campaign, when aliens play all the tricks in their arsenal and you reallly need to adapt your strategy as the situations changes. On the other hand you can make your life easier by playing some optional missions to earn cash. You can do it as many times as you want and then spend the cash on bonuses that will help you beat the campaign. An extra flamethrower or even additional rifle marine can be priceless. What is great about the game's design is that it allows you to recycle the resources you spent. This means you can try different things and if you make a mistake or circumstances changes in a way you couldn't possibly expect, you can still correct it. Well, you can at least try :-).
This is an indie game, done by a small team, so don't expect fancy graphics. What you'll see is clean & readable. For me that's perfectly fine.
The only real problem I have with this game is that it crashes to desktop on my Mac from time to time. It doesn't make the game unplayable, but it's annoying.
If you like RTS-like games you should try Infested Planet.
