You would think that this game would suck if you didn't see all the positive reviews, but oddly enough, it's quite good. Granted, it's not one of the greatest games of all time, but I liked it from beginning to end, and that takes quite a bit of doing, picky as I am. You play as a bounty hunter named Silas Greaves who is hunting down various outlaws in the wild west. It's a lonely tale with virtually no characters that aren't enemies in the combat setting The way they remedy this is by having the story narrated by Silas himself, in a bar with various patrons and employees of different attitudes. This results in fun comments from his peers and Silas exaggerating anywhere from a little to a -lot-, and his exaggerations occur in-game, right in front of your eyes.
The gunplay is quite nice, having you use a few revolvers, rifles, and shotguns, with throwable dynamite (which you can shoot mid-air) on occasion. The enemies use much the same and are mindless outlaws who will take cover and pop out to take shots at you. The game uses a regenerating health system and will go into bullet time whenever you're about to take a lethal shot, giving you a chance to press the appropriate direction to dodge the incoming deadly shot. It's pretty exciting and cool, and you can do another bullet time event whenever you've killed a few guys, activating it to highlight enemies and, depending on your upgrades, quickly dispatch enemies.
Speaking of upgrades, you get XP and level up from your kills as well as for finding collectible facts about the wild west (which you can view mid-game or from the main menu). Each time you level up, you can spend it in one of three skill "trees" which focus on either dual-revolvers, sharpshooting, or shotguns. Each skill tree seems to have some skills that will work well with the other trees, and you'll max at least one of them as you play. Once you complete the game, new game + unlocks, in which you can take your end-game character back through the game again to continue getting more XP and unlocking more skills.
There isn't much more I can say about this game except that if you enjoy first-person shooters mixed with a little XP/skill-obtaining in games, you might dig this game. I was very surprised by how enjoyable it was and was glad I picked it up.
