Perhaps as a special side-mission / fantasy sequence, something along the lines of Back To The Future 3.

Silas (or whoever the hero will be) is trapped in a major ambush where he is hopelessly outnumbered and facing certain death. When suddenly a there's a flash of light and noise and Delorian pulls up in front of him and a young kid yells at him to "Get In! Get In Now!". He is then brought to the future where he equips himself with a few modern-day weapons (player gets to chose from an arsenal). Then, feeling greatly empowered and emboldened, Silas orders his young rescuer to return him back to the moment he was facing upon his rescue. Oportunity for some funny dialog as Silas is now feeling quite slap-happy with his new toys: "Yippy Ky-Yah, Mother F---ker", "Lock and Load", or other Duke Nukem-style quips, etc.

Player then gets to fight his way through and clean up his aformentioned certain-death situation with outrageous firepower (think TEC-9, flash-bangs, grenade launcher, chain gun, or whatever the player chose from the future arsenal). It's pretty much just a one-man slaughterfest for the rest of the mission, or until his weapons run out of ammo or the the player does something stupid and get himself killed.

Just as the mission is about to reach conclusion, the narrator could dismiss that part of the story as just a fantasy or dream he had; much the way Silas dismisses his fight in the swamp against an entire tribe of Indians as "No, not really; I was just checking if you were still paying attention."

How about adding a Wrangler Jane side-kick. (see "F-Troop" TV show from 1966). If we can't have a solid fighting girl character like her, then how about one like Jesse in Toy Story 2 just to increase the funny factor.

I don't think good games like this can usually be outdone by a sequel. Wild West theme often looks very similar no matter what years in the 19th century it takes place in. I mean usually it is after the Civil War. But they covered Civil War in Call of Juarez 1, 2.
I would not want to see some kind of fiction about known outlalws, or the indians. Being able to play as the nephew of Cylas (or Cyrus, not sure) was not very fun.

They just need to make another game entirely that has nothing to do with Wild West but plays like this one. It could be modern, future, whatever.

I'd have loved to see something with 1930s gangsters and the shootouts during the prohibition era. Also maybe the cheezy 70s theme which may have some kind of Dirty Harry plot.

Actually right after ww2 is a good theme as well because not many games take place between 1945 and 1965 where you actually shoot a lot

More guns (sniper rifles), horse riding and free roam.

We could meet up with Abe Lincoln - Vampire Slayer. Help him kill a bunch of vampires and their henchmen / Renfield types. Rid the village/town of the evil scurge.

How about an axe or Indian tomahock as a weapon. Get some of the old Ultra Violence going. Or a BIG Bowie knife. Work in more up-close hand-to-hand combat.

They have a mixed half white half native playable character in Call of Juarez 1, if they did something with that story it could be fun. But then don't forget there are other old west themed games already where you can play as natives. I think the console Red Dead Redemption, and pc game called Gold & something, which is multiplayer focused.

I think that it should have a bit more of complexity when it comes to the skill building. Weapon jamming, forcing you to grab another revolver or rifle. A bit of weapon customization as much as the old west can offer. And a slide maneuver like jump. More so than these I would hope they work the linearity of the levels making it atleast less noticeable. Who knows if all goes well actually adding some horses could affect the all round experience with either a breeding mechanic with the added catching of wild horses, maybe for the added affect of the old west why not add some tonics so they can work as the games type of potion system this could even add a bit more focus to looking for those rare plants it spoke of in the loading screen.

Our hero could get Shanghaied (literally) in San Francisco and shipped to China as a slave laborer. Overall plot would be to manage to escape, find and aquire weapons of any kind, upgrading along the way. Free other slaves, kill their captors/bosses, seek vengeance. Do other well-intentioned deeds along the way (side-missions). Make your way back to the shipping ports. Sneak aboard a ship capable of transporting you back to the USA; take over the ship by force; seaze command; set out of port. Just when you think you're home free your ship is attacked by another ship (or maybe 2!) sent by the terrible slave lord whose ship you just stole. You then have a ship-to-ship battle at sea: cannon fire, pirate-type combat of the era, etc.

Make it through all that and you finally arrive back at San Francisco where you can start the next part of the story: seek out and exact vengeance on those who Shanghaied you (and the others you freed back in China).

If you wanted to continue the story after that you could have our hero turn to fighting for the freedom of black / African American slaves in America. The story could draw attention to the parallels of White slavery to slavery of Blacks in America (and indeed around the world). I think the CoJ writers could come up with a highly motivational storyline and lots of reasons to justify our hero going on more shoot'em-ups. Fun for the whole family.
