the weapons feel allot more powerfull in SS2 for myself at least perhaps its the sounds
slower movement speed does make no sense
Crotonna sometimes makes good jokes :)
dont take the game seriously ;p
Sorry, do you mean mouse sensitivity?
I pretty much agree on the weapons, especially the two shotguns are weird abominations of game design. How can you screw up a shotgun? How can you screw up a double barreled shotgun? How on Earth can you screw up both in the same game? :D The plasma gun is nice though, the cannon still packs a lot of punch, the minigun is awesome, the dual Uzis is a nice touch but it's a shame how much better they were implemented in the Next Encounter which was not even done by Croteam.
Agree on the art style: it has its charm to me because it just amazes me with its idiocy but yep, not Serious Sam.
Again you're spot on with the game's main audience being console kids. The tone of the game highly resembles what you see in the console-only Next Encounter (that game is the cartoony art style done right though, Climax did not go overboard with the sillyness so the game still has that Serious Sam vibe) and the difficulty was toned down quite a bit too so that it would be manageable with a controller.
But you know what? I hated it too when it came out but later on I noticed that the game has a lot of redeeming factors:
- Croteam went with the quantity over quality approach when it comes to the enemy types which means that you have more for the same function but in different environments (for example you have clowns instead of kamikazes on the Chinese themed levels) and it gives the game a lot of extra visual variety, a bit like what you have in Painkiller.
- The weapons may suck but they are balanced out nicely (sadly the shotguns are the exceptions here as the single shottie is so powerful and accurate that in most cases it's flat out better than the double barreled variation).
- Huge variety in levels with graphics that still hold up pretty well.
- The granade is an awesome addition to the arsenal, absolutely love it!
- Nice physics, more puzzles based around them would have been nice.
- A bit more gameplay variety, not just the usual "horde of enemies appears, you kill them" kind of deal.
- Vehicles are cool, they have tight controls and good weapons
Anyway I say stick with it as the second half of the game is a lot better than the first, the whole experience kinda redeems itself till the end.
