Launch options?
I bought the Lego Harry Potter games for my son's birthday, and they run fine on my laptop, but I'm trying to get them going on a somewhat older desktop, too. Years 1-4 will work when I turn off all the graphic effects and turn down the resolution, texture quality, etc. Years 5-7 crashes when it tries to start. I suspect that this old machine just can't limp through the extra demand on its processing power to get me to the menus. Does anyone have any idea whether I can set these options from the command line? I know how to set launch options in Steam, but I don't know what options to set. I'd appreciate it if anyone would clue me in.

You can find the configuration file at the following location for Windows 7:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\WB Games\LEGO Harry Potter 2\pcconfig.txt

Windows XP is probably somewhere in C:\Documents and Settings\, just use Windows Explorer to search for pcconfig.txt.

Some values you could change:

ScreenWidth <width>
ScreenHeight <height>
Set <width> and <height> to whatever your Windows desktop's resolution is set to.

ShaderQuality 0
ShadowQuality 0
TextureQuality 0
BloomEnabled 0
EdgeAAEnabled 0
DoFEnabled 0
All of the above are controllable via in-game settings. Using 0 is equivalent to either Low, or Off.

Lastly, I have no way of knowing whether or not the following settings have any actual bearing on the game's performance, nor on its stability. I am merely guessing by their names that an older PC would benefit by not using them. Change these at your own risk. I'd suggest changing only one at a time, so that if you encounter problems, you will know exactly which setting it was that caused it.

SpeedBlurEnabled 0
MotionBlurEnabled 0
WaterDistortionEnabled 0
GPAAEnabled 0
RingEffectEnabled 0
LensFilterEnabled 0
UseHires 0
UseHiresPending 0
