Max Payne 1 ,2 and 3 on AMD Cards
Alright, I have an AMD HD6970 And I've been playing the 3rd A shedload recently. However, I can only play on the 13.4 drivers in DX9 mode, as DX10/10.1/11 will crash within minutes. This is the case for most people it seems. Now, the latest 13.10 drivers claim to have fixes for Max Payne 3, so I thought i'd give it a shot. But with AMD's infinite wisdom they made Net. Framework 4.5 mandatory for these drivers, which MP3 doesn't support (You need version 3.5). Let me say this DO NOT INSTALL THESE DRIVERS. The installation of the 4.5 framework really messes with your PC and Steam. After reading up, I see Catalyst 12.1 is the only stable version for MP3 that won't crash with Dx11. I installed it and it turns out whatever the 13.10 drivers did (i've removed the framework 4.5) it means that Steam will not work or load (Steam Client something error, i've tried a million things, it is unfixable) unless you run Steam in compatibility mode for XP. NOW, this all well and good, but you can't play Max Payne 3 in this mode as it won't load social club up. So... BACK TO 13.4 again, and i'm stuck with crappy DX9. The great part now is if you want to also play Max Payne 1 & 2 you can't because you need version 12.6 for it to work, and that will cause constant crashes on MP3. So full circle! Back where I started and it's a massive waste of time. If this helps save someone some time who's going through the same problem, just give up.
