Awesome Game NEEDS ARCADE STICK SUPPORT
Out of all the Indie Shmups on on Steam Barely any of them support the Arcade stick (unless you have one of those fancy ones you can switch) These games are meant to be played with sticks i wish dev's would take that into consideration.

... Have you tried using Joy2Key?
For the case of joysticks, many joysticks have completely different input standards, making it difficult for small developers to implement joystick support. However, I don't recall having trouble playing this on a PS2 USB converter.

This is due to how on most sticks, the most responsive way to use the stick is to set it to D-pad mode, but the D-pad is marked as a "POV hat" and 99.9% of PC shmups do not accept POV hat for directional input.

You could try a custom driver called XBCD that lets you map D-pad to proper directional input, but I've found it to be more of a hassle than it's worth. Just use Joy2Key instead.
