and I know it's not a game.

You can always try a less demanding (and much less visually and audio beautiful) MOD version of DE for free http://www.moddb.com/mods/dear-esther Well, if you have any source engine game, that is. It's requirements are *probably* around those for the Half-Life 2: Episode 1 or less.
Also, it is a game, just not in a pretty outdated sense of the word:)

Thanks, will this work on Left4Dead 2 or no? (it's the only source engine game I own, and since I've seen a lot of people say to try the mod on Half-Life 2 and not any source game,I want to make sure you know)

Hm, actually no:\ It says: "You must have Half Life 2 and Episode 1 installed in order for this mod to work." in the requirements. Well, this is why they made a standalone version in the first place, so compatibility problems like this don't exist, i guess.

Dear esther is great no matter what. but i would definitely wait, if you really want to get the full effect of the game.

I run the game at high quality settings maxed out on my PC and I have a Intel P4 with HT running at 3.0 Ghz single core Prescott core. I have a Nvidia Geforce GT 220 1 GB card too, and this game runs fantastic!

Adding dearesther.exe in the configuration utility for the dedicated graphic card enabled me to run Dear Esther with higher quality settings.
