You should let people form their own opinion on this masterpiece rather than telling what to do.

Yeah, you should do that with every game.. Who needs to play CoD multiplayer when you can just watch others play..

not like you do anything in this game...
Solving puzzles....hmmm no
Fighting something ....hmmm no
Interacting with other characters ....hmmmm no

so what do you do? oh yea hold W and listen and pay money

Two bucks for something like this is what I came here for. Sometimes I enjoy games without a goal. Ones where I can just chill out after a difficult day. I'm not always feeling like an action adventure. I just want to wind down.

Hm, I pay ~$8 for a CD from a band I enjoy and all I do is listen. Holding W adds a whole new dimension!

there is stuff to do in this game and the number on thing is to enjoy it! not only that but its a mystery you listen to the story and like puzzle solvong you try to figure out what everything means in the game, the signs in the cave, the symbols in the sand, the mysterious ghosts roaming the island. i though this game was great and i still play it to this day.

according to your logics, gaming is stupid because its like watching tv only you have to press all these buttons! tv is way better cause you dont have to press those annoying buttons and think for yourself!

rite bro

this game is very nice for people who think outside of the box, buttons, and cliché's.
youre obviously not one of us, and hey, thats no prob. but don't blame the game for that.

I'm a huge fan of experimental gameplay and interactive art. The environments of Dear Esther are well rendered and enjoyable, but the pacing of the story and the sometimes ham-fisted attempts at conveying emotion (other than the properly depressing environment itself) were less impressive.

Still, I don't feel cheated. It was inexpensive in the extreme and the art direction worth it, even if the rest was flat. Plus, I don't think many people are unaware of Dear Esther these days... although I do feel some sympathy if someone thought it was a "game".

The biggest problem I see with this as a YouTube Let's Play is that a big part of the experience is wandering through the enviroments and focusing on things you find interesting. I spent time examining the glowing writing in parts and even Googling the organic formulas presented. My let's play would probably annoy someone who had different interests.

As it should. Interactive art (even as minimally interactive as this) should allow the viewer to select the level of engagement they have with the piece.

I love how people are struggling despite the cost dropping to less than three dollars.
