I'm sick, and tired of dynasty/family game makers thinking the feminine game concept of dynasty/family games is for men, and doing these things of not allowing Queens to rule, and of fixating on Imperialism, and war instead of story, and advancing as a civilization. It's not even remotely historically accurate to not have any matriarchies, countries with equality in inheritance, or countries that allow women to hold the positions of the council in this game. It's historical corruption to push misogyny, and it has doubtlessly crippled their profits. This fixation on Imperialism these games almost always do is also crippling their profits, because that's not what women want to do, on average, while it is a type of game that will naturally appeal most to women. Then, is another thing wrong... These countries are not ancient Rome, they would not consider a noble, or royal who says no to cheating on a spouse, or having relations outside of marriage to be less prestigious, so some irreputable person in the game designer crew screwed that up entirely. On the contrary, every religion in the game dictates that one must be more respectful to partners than that. I believe even Islam does, as it does have rules about how to treat one's multiple wives. (Buddhism very much frowns upon 'loose'ness. it is a sin that is in contrast to the path of Buddhism, a path which requires treating partners appropriately, having proper consent, etc. - Christianity condemns such behavior. - Islam would kill a woman like that, and a man behaving that way will also be ruined if caught, though not put to death. - Judaism did away with allowance of such things long before the earliest possible starting year in this game, and such behavior is not allowed. - The various Pagan groups will have had varying views. Though, none of the Pagan groups would have seen it as more prestigious to act that way, and none would view a King/Queen who says no to inappropriate relationships as less prestigious.)
Basically... They need to change it to have more story/events regarding the characters, to having more to do in construction, to having more to do for money (these nobles, and royals are ridiculously poor!), to allow the use of the succession law where women are equally eligible, to also let us have a women-only inheritance law, to be able to teach more than two children at a time, to be able to influence a child of yours even while not his/her mentor (such as to say no to something the child was wrongfully taught), to fix it so people with good traits never teach kids to have bad traits (this happens often, and it ticks me off!) (or if they do do it, it should only be when they hate the child, and/or family of the child), to fix it so a character does not lose prestige by saying no to inappropriate relations, to fix it so a character usually loses prestige, and opinion of others when engaging in inappropriate relations (if unable to keep it a secret - maybe do an E.P. that adds a better little system about how well, or badly you keep affairs secret that makes it a better story, so the game is more story-driven, and less mechanical than it is now (it's currently far too mechanical/psychopathic)), to fix it so you can't try to start with a character that's impossible to play via the custom character system so you don't get hit with an immediate game over after trying it while not knowing you can't do that due to lacking the necessary E.P. (I was happy to see I could make a Buddhist Queen (I am Buddhist), only to get hit with the immediate game over, because I lack Rajas of India), change it so the ethnicity/race system actually will say such things as being half of this, and half of that... (It's kind of odd seeing very mixed people simply called one thing they often don't pass as in how they turned out. Race, and ethnicity are genetic, and our ancestors of those times fully understood that. The very recent view of ethnicity as a social construct where you can just call yourself anything you like is very new, and very imbecilic with no science behind it. No one in the past held such views, or the many genocides in history never would have happened.) And, there's surely more positive, and necessary changes they should do to improve this unfinished game that was impaired by a game designer's personal issues in real life.
I still consider the game recommendable... I just wouldn't call it fun, just, finished/complete, or accurate to history.
It's on par with Medieval II: Total War. But, it has online multiplayer, and badges, because it's a newer game, while M2:TW is too old for these things. (Not that it's of interest to the Crusader Kings II crew... But, I'd love a M3:TW that is more political, more economic, more dynasty/family event-laiden, with matriarchy, and equality possible for some, or all countries. A superior Total War that is very appealing to female gamers, not just male. You get the idea, richer, and treats the female player of the game as an equal to the males, and is actually a story-creating/telling game instead of just invade-conquer-oppress trash. I have no interest in that aspect of the game, and think dynasty/family game makers should stop catering to it. It's as stupid of a game concept as those military shooter games. Put the RPG into the strategy game if you're going to give us the cool dynasty/family feature! And, let US decide how we play, instead of rewarding just one play style with a win, or altogether get rid of the win crud, and let us play how we want, only considering it a lose when our dynasty dies out! (It's a shame The Guild III won't be out until 2016. I hope they do the dynasty/family stuff well...))
In the case of multiplayer, Crusader Kings II is currently the only dynasty/family game I know of for this. (But, that looks like it will be changing in 2016.)
I imagine most women on Earth would agree with me that even in cases of being historically inaccurate, we should be allowed to make a country a matriarchy, even if it does not start that way, so it's treating us, the game players, as equals, regardless of our gender, allowing us to derive an equal level of enjoyment from the game. It's just a game. (And, actual history backs that it was not all patriarchy. (Even the countries that were should be possible to change by how our game's unique story turns out. (If these games were trying to replicate history, we'd be given missions as we go that make us replicate history, and marriages & children born would replicate it, with failing to be exactly true to history being the end of the game. These games are game, not history classes. Let us have fun.))) And, we've as much right to enjoy it in full as men, without having to be represented by male characters.
And, if any of the game designers read this... An E.P. that introduces being able to replace one+ existing, reality-based countries with completely custom/made up ones would be awesome. This could be a good one to introduce lots of story potential, and give a way to start off with a matriarchy for female players to keep to a female main character. And, an addition of badges for custom characters, and custom countries would be great.
Oh! And, one more thing... Badges should be obtainable while using custom characters. And, with custom countries if such a feature ever gets added. Except the badges requiring you be a specific character, or country, obviously. People like custom characters. So, lots of people are getting few-to-no badges just from this alone, the requirement of not starting with a custom character. It's not fair to creative players looking for fun. Please, stop rewarding psychopathy, and start letting the game be more fun, creative, and interesting.
