I Play online but i use a service called tungle and setup fake lan games, unfortunatly the Meta Server hasn't worked for the past month. However if you don't mind useing tungle I can help you get set up, there's even a CK2 room on the tungle servers. not hosted of course but you can likely find people there

Look on the paradox interactive forums for games. I think if you sign up and regester your game there you can use the meta server. http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?681-Crusader-Kings-II-Multiplayer

meta server wont work for me either. both europa3 and ck2 are great games, but unfortunatly, paradox didnt pay much attention to multiplayer.

Yes, you have to register your game on the paradox forums, and login to the meta server with your forum account.

You'll need to get software that creates a virtual LAN over the internet (e.g. Hamachi) and have both people using it, while being in the same 'network'. Also, make sure to get yourself and anyone else to check their version+checksum of the game, as it needs to be identical. (e.g. if someone has v1.02 LFOE and another has v1.02 MFOE, it won't work. although getting both people to restart the game will generally fix this)

regarding the checksum: whenever you quit a game but return to the main menu, it changes the first letter by +1 on the alphabet to force you to restart the game mainly because some resources get fubared when returning to menu

you can always use the direct connect feature as well, however.

I have a group of about fourteen people together and we play CkII pretty often. You can join it if you'd like. Just add me.

Just signing up on the forum is not enough. You must then go to the "my games" section, find crusader kings in the drop down and enter your CD key. Now your forum account is linked to your key. Then on the Crusader kings picture down the bottom of the page, click the little lock icon. This will send your forum password to the meta server. Then make sure your checksum is what it should be, it is in the bottom right of the main menu. Finally wait 1-2 hours for the meta server to update, get passwords etc, and then you should be good to go.

EDIT: fixed a couple of the million spelling errors
