Where should I held my counties?
I started in Dublin and now I'm emperor of Britania. I can hold like 12 territories. I don't know if I should get all of thein in Ireland, with the 2 duchies; or spread them and get the best ones.

Consolidate your territory. You want to be able to raise your men and get them togthe quickly in the event of a revolt. Consolidation is key.

You always want to hold the lowest number of Duchies - if you hold more than 2, your vassals will increasingly hate you for that.
So focus on the ones with the highest average, and total number of Holding (i.e. the small city-castle-temple icons in the province view).

If you really have 12 demesne size, I'd advise you to take three 4-counties Duchies - Ulster, Albany and either Hereford or Lancaster.
The inital adjustment cost will be a bit high, but the inherent strength of having the wealthiest Duchies in Britannia will really help your stability in the long run.

1) Coastal
2) Contiguous
3) As mentioned, maximize the number of counties in your two Duchies.
4) Also keep in mind that some counties are more defensible than others, due to terrain.

I hold the opinion that the closer they are together the better off you really are, specifcally with the spread of technology. As many all together as possible.

If you have all the counties in a duchy, you dont need the duchy - simply destroy it. Use the allowance to hold 2 titles you dont have any counties in and you have 2 less dukes to worry about.

Personally, I take the highest income counties for myself - damn the slow tech spread. My chancellor can usually be found fabricating claims in Venice or Constaninople regardless of where I start!

WIth ToG we saw a massive and functional change to use of research, and it's importance.

How your research currently works: Any advancement, any + points received from Tech theft, they all go to your capital. Your capital then proceeds to spread your technology to your neighbouring vassals.
Any neighbouring Count will be very grateful for this, as they are incapable of producing any research points per month on their own (unless stolen). They are dependant on your discoveries to reach them!

Dukes through Emperor all have the ability to generate monthly points, and thus spread new technologies.
This goes hand in hand with wanting all of your holdings so close to your original starting location, and gives merit to keeping 3 holdings in your Capitol for maximum science benefit.
When you conquer and gain posession of a new County, that new territory may have significantly less scientific discovery (add up the 3 numbers on the County Holding screen) than you. It may take awhile for your superior technology to reach these holdings. Thus rendering a closer county superior to a farther one, even if the farther one has more possible building slots.

Im a little burnt on this explanation right now. Let me know if you have any questions

I see. Very interesting :O But is this an improvement of the ToG? (I don't have that DLC yet). Or the system is the same in previous games?

Whenever a large DLC comes out they also patch the game.
Some elements changing the gameplay are for free some other are for who pays.
Technology redesign is for free ;)

I would say Rome best capital. 1 its central on the map. 2. costal so can get fleet to move armies around fast. Maybe not best tech capital at start but you can capture a mulsim nation in the south for awhile to tech rome up. alexandria would make decent capital awhile to get rome up to speed. But if you start say in old gods era everyone is in the same boat tech wise.

Slightly off-topic, but does tech spread through non-contiguous territories? For instance, if I'm Britanny, but I also have the duchies of Cornwall, Munster, and Galicia, will my tech from Britanny spread to those duchies?
markdb92 12 септември 2013 в 8:30сут.
Your tech from your capital will spread to your own personal demise and then tech will spread out to the counties that border your own
