good starting nation

hi everyone i have recently got the game and was wondering what is the best nation/duke/count to start as?

Dont know if there is "the best" choice. Just go with the nation that you like. If you are a beginner then i think that it's the best to start with one of the "Irish" dukes/counts.

If you are playing with a 1066 start, the The duke of Thormond is a good start or any Spanish count/duke is also very good.

If you are playing with The Old Gods, the Jorvick [York] is Good, or Aggar in Norway.

Try an Irish duke or count. Form Ireland without any foreign pressure. It's called Tutorial Island for a reason.

Agree with Ireland to learn the ropes, and then from there the "best" nation is really based on personal preference.

Will probably be on sale. If you need more help understanding the game watch damo2986 and his lp, I think it wil help. Paradox is infamous for its bad tutorials (Sorry Paradox).

If you start as one of the Irish dukes/counts it is very hard to expand. Which will make the game seem very slow.

If you want to go easy on yourself, start as ERE. A hard and dull game would be Croatia. Lots of big boys in the neighbourhood!

Eastern Roman Empire (the Byzantines) and then there is the HRE Holy Roman Empire. Both are somewhat easy to play as because they can just roflstomp everything around them effortlessly

Im not sure what your talking about Croatia has alot of things you can do with it

I started as norse faction fun as hell. You have to be constant war due to be pagan and you can have keep your vassels army up at all times till you conquer enough land to reform it so no nasty catholic tries to convert you to stop you from expanding since mr pope would say no. After you reform norse you become the pope in a sense so no fear of excom related stuff and you can holy war against anyone who isnt your faith which is like no one.

i should also state the only dlc i have is the make your own lord thing.
