I got it to run by renaminge the gfx\flags folder, but this is just an interim solution until Paradox tells me which flag is causing the problem.

So the solution is to delete (or rename) the Documents\gfx\flags folder. In my previous post, I renamed the flags folder in SteamApps. I hope it helps.

Bon jeu!

Awesome, that worked for me too. Finally I can play it! Did you find a permanent solution though?

So this did not work for me. Anyone have any other advice on this?

You don't say if the game used to work for you and now does not, or never worked for you.

IF NEVER:
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\DX\ and run dxsetup.exe

If that doesn't help, please try installing:

First: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.

IF IT USED TO WORK:
Please try a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local files" in Steam
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

Still, i don't have any flags in the game now, which is annoying. Is there any other solution to make it work? I tried all the steps mentioned above.

This is happening to me every time I start the game. Worked just fine yesterday wtf lol
