How to get Retinues?
Hi guys, I am playing as a Duke in Norway. I started as a count in Iceland but now I am the Duke of Iceland.

My only issue is I still can't make Retinues can only kings create them?

no you need the legacy of rome DLC
Evil Morty 2 Mar, 2013 às 11:20
I have that DLC

You can create retinues under the Military, Retinue tab. The amountof retinues you can create is restricted by your realms tech levell, and obviously how much gold you have (to buy/reinforce them)
Evil Morty 2 Mar, 2013 às 12:08
OK, I have been playing a long time now but still not got the tech, I will have a look around see if I can find it!

la_nague 2 Mar, 2013 às 12:37
everyone has that tech.

you only need to go to the military page and then there is a whole tab about retinues.
All you need is the legacy of rome DLC activated, you can make retinues with counts.

It might be that you don't have enough retinue cap... but if you are a Duke chances are you have enough holdings in your domain to generate cap...
Evil Morty 2 Mar, 2013 às 13:07
Yes that is what it says I have no Cap. I only have one holding. I was count of half of Iceland I took the title duke then indipendance. (Why is my title not King?)
la_nague 2 Mar, 2013 às 14:36
to be a king you have to create a kingdom, independence just made you an independand duke.

you can click on a holding fal and it opens its page, there is a check button "dejure". Check it and it will show you to which kingdom it belongs. click on the kingdom flag and then there will be a greyed out "create" or "ursup" button. Hover over it and the tiooltip tells you what you need to be a king!

You should still see the retinue page and all the different retinues. If your cap is too small, it should simply grey out the buttons to create one.

btw, once you know all the different windows, this game gets much easier to use because of all the great tooltips =)
Evil Morty 3 Mar, 2013 às 10:58
Yes my cap is too small. But no matter what I do I can not get it to go up. How should I do it? I became the king of Norway for a bit in my last game but still could not get one.
Nef 3 Mar, 2013 às 11:42
Retinue cap is based on a formula which takes into account the maximum size of your realm levies (or you and your vassals if you are not the top level liege lord) as well as your technology level. The easiest way to increase it is simply to take more land or build new holdings.

Nef, that was extremely helpful. I did not really know where the Cap came from.
Nef 5 Mar, 2013 às 18:18
No problem. I only got my info from ingame anyway, I think if you mouse over the retinue cap scroll thing, it shows you how the game has worked out what your cap is.

Additionally there is an issue under Linux with a folder name in caps. I don't know which platform you use – but all DLC packages will only run if the folder

~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/Crusader Kings II/DLC/

will be renamed to
~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/Crusader Kings II/dlc/
