Republics need to be fixed
In a late game I experienced that republic are geting very strong as they are conquering other provinces. Eg.: Venezia get whole Sicily and later on half of Africa.

That doesn't sound too bad. I've not seen much evidence of republics taking significantly more land than they did historically... in this time period, several of the Italian republics at least, especially Venice, did take over other provinces.

you can play a balance mod if you dont like the gamebalance.

i like "project balance" as it doesnt change gameplay much, only changes balance.

I take it back... I just noticed in my current game, Meath (republic) has taken large parts of England and Britanny...

the republic of genoa took a great deal of land in my playthrough as well. they took nearly half of ibeira and much of north africa before i crushed them...

I think they get so powerful because of money. With the sheer amount of money they make so quickly they are able to hire an enourmous amount of mercenaries.

its only a history SIM, i.e not real history. and in this period, the republics were wastly powerfull which i think the game reflects perfectly. if you dont like it, mod it :)

I'm not talking about real history. I'm talking about that this republics are overpowered and unbalancing the native game later on.

It's not a sim? It doesn't reflect real history? Wherever did you get that idea?

Come on, we're not idiots here, please. No need to be patronising.

EDIT: sorry, didn't mean to seem harsh. Of course it's not a sim. But I do like things to be as accurate as possible without spoiling fun. Regardless, as others have said, this is also a balance issue. And by accurate, I mean vaguely within the realms of plausability :)

No harm mate, Its never going to be real history, since that would take you/us as the player, out of the equation. we would just be watching history roll by. hence its only a history sim.
back to subjekt, i just personally think that they reflect the historic republics fine, but i've never experienced them getting vastly powerfull, yes they do rival some of the big powers but thats not unlike what they did irl.
but i do really encourage some modder to nerf them, if not for me, then for the people who think they are too powerfull for an enjoyable playthrough.

No ♥♥♥♥, bro. Republics are OP as ♥♥♥♥ late-game. By the 1200's most patricians can hire 2-4 mercenary units at once without losing money. The only thing keeping republics from conquering the entire damn world is their no-title-usurping restriction, and even that's not enough to keep Venice from Holy War-ing their way through the middle east.

All i am saying is that i dont see a problem with it, i find them to be both enjoyable to play with, and not too OP for my taste. If you dont like it, im sure theres some sort of mod out there to fix it. as you by no means it seem to be the only one, with a problem with it.

I currently have a game going as the King of Italy (a country that built up under the Holy Roman Empire and has since declared it's independence), and am in the process of reclaiming the last bits of Italy. I have alread seen the demise of the Grand Republic of Genoa, and will likely be wiping out the others within a generation as well. I'm considering reinstating one or two, maybe even all, as Duchy level republics under me for the cash, and since they will be subject to my crown laws, they will be unable to declare wars and become too powerful.

The reason I bring this up is because though I am accomplishing this due to my position as the natural De Jure liege over the area, you can usurp Duchy titles through fabricating claims. Theoretically, anyone with an interest, time, and a bit of luck can do this. At the very least, it is very cathardic for those of us who have some frustrations with the Republics at times (though I still do enjoy playing AS them, even so).

That all said, I have noticed that the introduction of Republics has definately altered the flow of gameplay. Before, there was a very good chance of Muslims holding their own, especially on the Iberian Penninsula. I had about half my games seeing them conquering the Spanish countries within a hundred or two hundred years. Now, however, the Muslims get pretty much squished nearly every time, because now the Catholics have a VERY distinct advantage over them. History aside, it is a balancing issue, and one I hope to see tweaked soon.

With any luck, introduction of the Barbarian DLC will help with this.

I actually have a Muslim republic in my realm now, which I didn't know could happen!
