How to BECOME a Republic?

Well its nice to be able to play these fancy republics that are predefined by the DLC.
But is it possible to become a republic? And if so, how could one do that?

No. Feudal = Feudal, Republic = Republic. Feudal/Republics and take land from one another, but there is no way of switching.

Actually... As a Republic, you can switch to a Fuedal lord. I'm pretty sure I saw that confirmed on Paradox's Webpage. But regardless, you cannot play as a Republic yet, we're all still waiting for the DLC release that makes it playable.

Haha, digital retails still need to have the keys man. In other news, they mainly stopped distributing the game. Any purchases at this point will NOT get you the key, as they are waiting until it is "officially" released. :-/ Some people got lucky.

Seems it would be *possible*, if you owned a castle, a city, and a duchy (republics are duchy level). If you lost/gave away your baron without losing your duchy, viola, republic.

Or maybe not. Somebody will need to experiment.

Haven't actually managed to switch yet, but to CREATE a republic, give a MAYOR a duchy level title... I did this with my eldest son (who was my heir) but the game automatically switched from him to my next eldest. Gave up trying to switch in-game after my assassinations resulted in my heir being a guy out of my demense. (You can load the save and select the new republic, but your score is reset)

cant give away the castle as a fudal lord without giving the county itself. you cant legitimately go from lord to mayor

your heir... get a city and give it to your heir

but as I said above... it is difficult to switch... especially if you have a largeish family... easier to load a save game after creating a republic.

your heir will be taken out of the line of succesion. there is no way of going from lord to mayor without console commands or reloading
