Demesne 111/8, what to do?
Long story short; started as Bohemia, inherited early in game Poland, later inherited the Byzantine Empire, now won the Holy War for Hungary the Pope started against the Golden Horde and got Hungary.

Now my empire streches all the way from the Baltic Sea to Israel and southern Italy but after I won the Holy war my demesne is 111/8. What to do and to who give counties etc? I started by looking for claimants to titles but not sure if I do it right (should I give areas to them?). How many counties is it safe to give to the same person?

Oh, and I am also in the middle of a huge civil war, literally half my Empire revolts as they want other ruler. It started during the Holy war so Hungary isn't in it. Neither is the loyal Poland.

Thanks for your help!

the reason they revolt is quite obvious: they think yourself way too powerfull and greedy with all those counties and titles. Thats how the game works: you can only hve a limited amount of holdings yourself, you will have to redistribute the rest. (vassals get angry if you hold more than two duchies if you're king for example))

Its a bit late now, but if you manage to win the cvil war, imprison and strip everyone of their titles of the people who rebelled against you. then you can start handing them out. check the CK2 indepth guide on the paradox forum on how best to do that.

the general rule is too divide. hand out the counties to distant family members (cousins, kinsmen), and make sure they dont overlap. by this i mean that you shouldnt give a father regions, and also his son, cause the son will inherit it and grow bigger.

but really check the guide, your situation way too screwed up to discuss it all here:

Thanks for your help! The revoilt started btw when I had 6/8 demesne....

well, there can be several reaons for them to revolt. but having too many titles (doesnt have to be in your demesne, like said, for eample holding 5 duchy titls when you're a king)) will make them annoyed anyway, and can push them over the edge to join the revolt instead of helping you

Lost the Byzantium Empire, had lost tens of thousands of men vs Golden Horde and another party also started a civil war against me so I had like 2/3 of their men. :( The revenge will be sweet!

I think if your really big enough the hordes may leave you alone. Say formed the roman empire. The ai would go I know I will lose the war why try but if it has a chance to win they will attack.

The revenge was sweet! Got the Byzantine Empire back after I teamed up in a faction with another powerful man in the Empire! We had 98% of the men the Basilius had and he fought a civil war for independence and a trade embargo war vs Pisa too.

The first thing I did as re-installed Basilius was taking back some counties lost in the Empires independence war and taking the Kingdom of Finland (which I had inherited a strong claim on). So now I have four kingdoms and the Empire streches all the way from the North Atlantic to southern Italy, Israel and the Black Sea is all controlled by me.

Hope I will end my title streak here; Bohemia-Poland-Byzantine Empire-Hungary-Byzantine Empire. :D The sad thing is I now have to assassinate my oldest son (who is perfect;genius-brave-charitable and everything) because I got him while being King of Hungary while my second and and youngest son was born in the purple. I will loose all my four kingdoms to my oldest son otherwise as the son born in purple gets the Basilius title.

I am in pretty good positions now. I am allied with the Kaiser to the west as I am married to one of his daughters, the Golden Horde in the East turned Orthodox soon after they lost Hungary to me in the Holy War the pope started and the Danes sharing Finland with me will probaly not cause trouble.

There is only one problem I have now really; the risk of loosing tens of thousands of men in a huge war against the muslims in the south (wheter I am acctually winning or loosing the war it will happen) and the factions in my Empire therefore getting a even bigger percent of man power vs me and then while fighting the muslims starts civil wars. Then probably have to give in for the muslims demands on some counties so I don't loose the whole Empire.

I could of course ask the Kaiser to join me then, but I am afraid he is too busy fighting the Atzecs in Spain (or more correctly on the Iberian Peninsula). I bought Sunset Invasion a couple of days ago and installed it, but I thought it wouldn't work on old saves. With other words; I really got chocked when I heard about some weird looking men coming across the Ocean to invade Europe! :D

Regarding losing men in wars - don't worry about that! As long as you win the war, that's all that matters, no matter the losses. Your levies wll rebuild quickly enough once you disband your armies!
Kogak Mar 19, 2013 @ 1:34pm
Also, don't fight muslims with your personal levies. Find out whichever faction member has the strongest powers (highest percentage of men) and raise their levies to go die for you. Keep your vassals weak and fighting each other. While they kill one another, they leave you alone and still pay taxes. Also, for minor titles (cities, churches and castles below the one next to the owner's portrait) you can right click and pick the head to create a new random NPC that will be loyal to you, have your religion and your culture. They are not always good (syphillitic imbecil anyone?), but they are always loyal to you. Perhaps not your son, but you.
