And if they dont like each other they will not make alliances against you.
Rule #2 dont give ambitious players grants, if you have to give them outside your dynasty give them to lowborn with no claims and the content trait and the same culture
if you have a bad vassal take one of his children as a ward... prefereably his heir. 1. they will not take hostile acts towards you. 2. if you groom them properly you can give them the content trait and you will be their mentor +25 and good upbringing +10... and they will be loayal till your death .. and on a side note, this is a good way to change them to your culture if they are different
edit: with bishops.. if you keep the investeture open just place people who already like you before you appoint them. and like previously stated just use your court chap to increase them.
Mainly I just dont worry about them after the first few 100 years. Just go on a crusade and leave your army seperated and place every avail commander in position. Land in the crusade target wait a minute and every mayor/bishop in your land will have the crusader tag with +25 relations with them all. I also take children who arent my heir and place them in the lowest relation mayor/bishop as a ward +20 relations
one last golden rule I always use and no matter what fail this never fails. ALWAYS keep a reserve ducat level higher then what you are. eg. for a count keep 500g, duke 1000g, king 1500g, emperor 2000g. If you always maintain this level even in the hardest point of this game (sucsesion) you should be able to maintain a very powerful mercenary army than can crush anything swiftly
after your first kingdom title it becomes really hard to hold all three kingdoms together under elective. Even with a empire over the three its hard since all the dukes get to vote and it becomes very unwieldy to ensure your pick gets the title.
Sometimes you simply can't make some vassals happy.
You just have to first suppress the revolt and take away their titles (if they are counts) and release them (because they are harmless when they hold no title). If they are dukes and revolt the second time, you can only take away their duke title and keep them in the dungeon until they die.
