Mod for removing male ruler preference
So I'm trying to get my girlfriend to play Crusader Kings with me, but she's pretty displeased at the difficulty of maintaining a female ruler. Is there any mod or console command I can use to make gender irrelevant to rulership?

You could have the Basque culture, which allows absolute cognatic. I think the Cathar religion allows it too.
FrogDog nailed it, in game wise. Absolute cognatic succession (in the laws tab) sounds like the ingame solution and it's not paticularly hard to institute for a lot of rulers. With SoA it seems the Cathar religion allows women in almost all major roles, from leading armies to council spots.

I am afraid I cannot help with console commands and things of that nature though.
its only -10 opinion for being a female.
@Sir Home Slice: Yes, but they can't hold council positions (other than Spymaster, seemingly) or lead armies.

Absolute Cognatic however is ONLY available for Basque, and we want to be able to start outside of Portugal
k, then easiest thing to do is cheat.

culture basque
allow_laws

Other legitimate options, have heir tutored by a Basque or choose elective law.

Go into the Crusader Kings 2 folder in your Steam directory. Go to decisions, then open succession_laws.txt. Search for "true_cognatic_succession", then find
allow = { holder_scope = { OR = { culture = basque religion = cathar } } }
and remove it.
IIRC, that should make it available for everyone.
Alternatively, since she apparently wants more of a "screw history, equality for all" kind of game, become Cathar, then presumably attempt to replace the standard Catholic faith.
Do I D% the entire section in your quote?
Everything from the first "a" to the final "}" gets removed.

Yeah, I'd rather play video games than have a feminist girlfriend. Just sayin, mate.
Also
>believing equality of any kind whatever you might mean by it was possible up until XIX century

Go Cathar Holy Roman Empire, or Byzantine Empire, turn all the leaders into girls, GG.
Also, men love "genius" (read: smart) and "attractive" women in the game. ;D

you could mod the women only succession law so it would work too. Then mode in the ai cant change their laws.
You can mod in Female Only (Enatic) and Female-preference (Enatic-Cognatic) succession laws pretty easily.

Go to your steam folder /steamapps /common /Crusader Kings 2 /decisions succession_laws.txt

Scroll to the bottom and look for "potential =
always = no # For modders only". Simply change the no to yes.

You can then change the sucession laws normally with the game. Still need the in-game prerequisites of ruling for 10 years, being at peace etc.

Probably not reccomended if you're playing a Muslim or Patrician as I don't think they have martilinial marriges enabled.

It is dificult to have a female ruler? I had a game where I had three female rulers in a row. This was in Agnatic Cognatic sucession. They took all of the places required to form the Roman empire and all of the land the Karlings had except West Francia and Aquitane and maintained it. It is poosible to have good fmale rulers however has it is a historical game set at a time period where woman are generally disrespected by men. It does not revlect the devolpers veiws in any way it is just historically accurate. However some of my best rulers have been females.
