Getting rid of temporary titles?
So a count in my kingdom revolted against his duke which made him my direct vassal until their personal war was settled. I was fine with that except that in the process the count died and since he had no heirs I (as his liege) inherited all his titles. Also fine with that because it meant the war was over and it was one less thing to worry about except that the game glitched or something and gave me his temporary title as well.

I don't really mind being the King of Bavaria and the Duke of the Saxon Rebellion except that when you hold a temporary title you can't do anything. No wars, no intrigue, no creating/usurping titles, nothing!

I can't get rid of the title by any conventional means and since the war that created the title automatically ended when I got the title I can't seem to get rid of it.
I have not yet found a console code that I could use to destroy a title.

My game is ruined help!

EDIT: I've since reloaded a previous save and used the console to end the war which made the title to insure it wouldn't happen to me again. From what I've gathered there is absolutely no way to destroy a temporary title that you gain in this way.

its a bug just reload before he died to make sure he dont die again. Thats why you cant kill them. Does make you immune to threats,

Have you considered giving the title to someone else (using console commands). I'm not familiar with what the console can do, but that should solve your problems (if possible), putting them on someone else.

Reloading, I know I could reload but my last save is 10 months back (gametime) and since that save I've got almost 2 hours of playtime so if it can be avvoided I would rather try something else.

Console commands, I think the command is something like give_title <title ID> <char ID> but I don't know what kind of title this qualifies as (count, duke, etc).

Are you able to edit the save file and delete the title from your character details?

the title is probably something like d_saxon_rebel as it will be whatever ranked title it is, and that seems the most obvious name for it (could be d_rebel_saxon or some variant) you could look in the titles files or just brute force it with guessing.

I checked the save file and I know they used to be text documents but all my saves are ".ck2" file extensions and I can't edit them with notepad++.
I tried brute forcing the name to someone else which didn't work and it wouldn't have fixed the problem either because once you have the title it can't be destroyed and will be continually passed down from one generation to the next until I eventually conquer someone who gives it back to me.

When you save, uncheck the checkbox next to the filename. The game defaults to compressing the save games -- unchecking that box will save the game uncompressed.

Its a bug, report to paradox on their formes and they will probbaly fix it in the next patch

I found if I made the temporary title my primary it just fixed it.

You can't set it as primart if your rank is above the title's.
I had the same issue and removing it by hand in the save file as Weizon & Clearer suggested did the trick.

Now, you can also opt in and out of the latest beta patch to remove a temporary title.

Stil trying to figure out a work around for this.

outside ironman mode, giving away the title I was rebelliongaginst mywith against and giving it back destroyed the temporary title. I am not longer de facto at war with myself.

so 3 years later this is still a problem...

saving + quit -> reload your save, forces the game to run a sanity check over your game state and it will automatically remove temporary titular titles like incorrectly inherited revolts.

ps. don't necro.

Actually, it is ImOnlyOneMan necroing the heck out of the discussion boards. He must be feeling lonely.
