Is there a way to turn the Mongols off?
They annoy me greatly with their free 100k deathstacks that, of course, suffer no attrition. By the way, that's perfectly realistic because, as we all know, the Mongols were demons which don't need to eat. Only the foolish believe the Khans were humans.

Nowadays they have been coded to split their stacks to armies of about 20 000 each, and spreading them out. That would take most attrition away if they suffered it, so it is no longer as unfair as a single stack of 100 000.

With them spreading like that, they are beatable - even AI muslims can stop them. You just need to hit them one stack at a time. Maybe you need to white peace or even lose a little, but each war you fight against them destroys some of their at start troops.. in a few decades they will have just levies and continuous liberation revolts to keep those levies busy.

In the past, I've seen both Christian and Muslim kingdoms halt the Mongol hordes, but I doubt they could it anymore since the levy nerf. Empires who used to have armies over 100k can now barely muster 30k. A single one of those 20k Mongol stacks would wreck them.

And once the Mongols kill off half their troops in the first few wars, the levy nerf will wreck them as well.

Hopefully, but it's been a few years and their levy has only increased. Forgive me If I'm complaining alot, but the Mongols take out alot of the fun for me.

Consider playing in Iberia, Britain, or from 867. Nice mongolproofed lands.

I am, but it still annoys me to see half the factions in the game wiped out by the Mongols in five minutes.

if you want mongols off just delete the mongol event files simple as that

I deleted the mongol events file and it does seem to have turned them off. Thanks for the tip.

The chaos that mongol bring can make the use of crusades usefull ie ask papa to target them so all of chaolics go on crusade which is usually a match to wipe out thier doom stack in one go due the levies and retuines which mongols wont have cause of the debuff for 20 years on the land the mongols just took.

What I've typically seen happen with the Mongols is they make some headway into Eastern Europe and then collapse or convert (or both)

in my latest Ironman game, I, originally King of Denmark and now God-Emperor of Scandinavia and HRE went face to face with the hilarious Aztec death stacks in southern France. The Mongols conquered Poland and eventually collapsed on their own and then converted, and the Aztecs converted as well after conquering Spain and England =p

They can be fun imo, ofci t depends where you're playing; If you want to play a Russian duke or a Middle Eastern Muslim, they can probably ruin your day, but playing something on the very edge of the Mongol's usual expansion, always wondering if they'll get you this time or the buffer states will hold them, can be interesting~

Besides, how can you say no to a heroic defence on the banks of the Vistula river against countless hordes of horse archers ? =p

That is the beauty of Paradox games though, even with just a vague idea of what you're doing, you can easily take out things you don't like.

are the mongols even a threat anymore? ive been playing ironman recently and i havent seen them with a 100k doomstack....i dont even need to use levies to kill them, just my regular retinues.
seems that even with the levy nerf since they dont stack to 100k anymore its balanced and their not a threat at all.
same with aztecs. i played an ironman game in which they invaded france and i purposely did not go and fight them, to see how the ai would fare. and they were completely wiped out by AI france and hre because they dont even make 100k doomstacks anymore plus their army are terrible infantry.
well im glad that the doomstacks from old are gone but it seems that it feels too easy to defeat the aztecs and mongols now lol.

Then get invaded by the aztecs... Well, you have some time till that happens, but still.

Tbh if you're playing from 867 you'll probably be emperor of the world by the time mongols or aztecs come along, unless you're new or deliberately playing slower.
