Zoroastrian Mid Game
Im playing as zoroastrian and, contrary to what everyone seems to say, i found early expansion easy. Using my 4k event spawned troops i sucessfully took out the saffarids, the tahirids and the samanids (the 3 muslim factions surrounding you) as well as pushing slightly north and taking just beyond turkestan. However now i have problems.
I own everything east of baghdad but i just cant push any further west- the abbasids own everything so can call up a force in excess of 20k. If i raise my vassal and personal levy, hire a band of mercs and include my retinue (3k) then i only come up at around 17.5k max which would be fine if the abbasids werent allied with all the other muslims so call them even when i push de-jure claims (i am king of persia).
How do i push further west? Should i or should i just go north and come back later? AT the moment i just cant do anything, ive waged 3 wars and had to end all in white peace because i defeat 1 or 2 10-15k armies and then 1/2 more come from egypt.
Has anyone played as zoroastrian and if so can they please help me.

Go north and attack the Pagans. This creates a strong base for troop production to back up your wars against the Abbasids. In my Zoroastrian playthrough, I took out the Samanids, and moved up into Turkestan and Cumania (now own all of those lands) and almost completely destroyed Khazaria. My plan is to come down to the west of the sea of Aral and attack the Saffarids on two fronts.
so i should go north and come down through georgia?

I'd say go north and take what you can get there for now and wait for the Abbasids to have a succession crisis, or some other kind of rebellion.
Being Muslim they should get those pretty regularly.

Or can just try to provoke civil wars in the empire when one starts go in take the land fast. You would need merc and retuines to do this ie you be assulting instead of seigeing so make sure you have tons of archers or horse archers.
that what ive been trying to do atm. The satrapy of tigris tried to rebel so i holy war'ed him but because of occupation or some such i only own like 1/2 the duchy and some of the baronies are not under my control. My poor satrap is so upset about this, its quite funny actually. Still i think ill have to go north because the abassid empire seems quite stable atm, the emperor has reigned for a long time so hopefully when he dies there will be a succession crisis.
