Question...
I am new to this game and I am finding it hard to figure out if I am playing it properly. So I found a tutorial series by Arumba which seems very good. However when I try to create the same map he has in his tutorial I am running into some problems.

It seems like the name of Desmond, that is the county he is playing in his tutorial, is called Deasmbumbain on my map. He must have "Old Gods" selected because his starting date is Jan 1, 867. In fact all of the counties in Ireland have those strange longer names and I can't get my map to say Desmond unless I change the start date to "The Third Crusade" and then of course I am not playing the same map he is in the turtorial...

Anyway if someone knows what I am doing wrong I would really appreciate a comment or two, I really do wish Arumba would have said more about his start date and his choices for setting up his starting map, which I can't seem to find in his videos...

You aren't doing anything wrong. There's also no need to obese about the County names. It's just a name and names don't really matter. There's are dynamic names implemented in the game. Names of Counties will depend on the culture of the onwner.

Thanks for the reply but can you tell me why the names are different? Do you know why?

Province names depend on culture. The only reason that I can think of which would explain the name differences between yours and Arumba's version is that alternative names for Irish provinces were introduced with a certain patch.

Ok that makes sense then. I can't set up the same map as he has in his tutorial video however I can play it as the alternate name and it plays very similar. For instance he starts out at age 47 and has an heir, both of us are not married.

When looking for a wife I was able to marry the same as Arumba did, as in the Princess of West Francia.

Then once I was married I was able to betroth my heir to the other younger Princess of West Francia giving me alliances to West Francia and a few claims, at least I think it gives me claims I could be wrong about that because I don't know enough about this amazing game yet.

The other difference is that in Arumba's game he had three vassals and I have only one. However I have no liege just like he did which makes me independant.

Anyway I am slowly learning this game, wow it sure has a lot to learn but it really does appear to be worth it. I got the game and all of the DLC on the recent sale and it might just be the best title I bought on that sale...

Glad to hear you are satisfied. If you have other questions don't hesitate to look on either the wiki, Paradox plaza or the Steam forum :)

I wouldn't bother trying to perfectly replicate the play through since the game has changed a little since then, and every play through will play out differently each game. Even your traits are randomly determined unless you're playing as an event character what always has specific things. OR a custom one made in the ruler designer.
