Reaper Patch and Performance

Is it just me or is the game insanely fast now. (with max speed)

I'm seeing easily a 200% speed increase compared to pre reaper patch.

I know they mentioned increasing performance, but this is well beyond my expectations.

I guess I'll wait and see how much better it is after 200 years, but currently I'm seeing years fly past in seconds.

There was some focus on optimization during the development of the new expansion itself--mostly focused around getting rid of unnecessary characters. Here's the dev diary on it:

Well, before the new patch and Reaper's due was in place, whenever the game autosaved it always took a few seconds. Now the mousepointer turning into a hourglass as this happens is barely noticeable, which seems promising to me - but as you say, let's see how it is after a few hundred years first...
