What Just Happened ?
Ok , here go's :)

I was about 50 years in to setting up an Alan kingdom when a tengri uprising occured . I promptly hit up the Jewish moneylenders , raised my armies and hired a merc crew .

I had about 800 troops over the Uprising and was at full morale when I attacked . Normally it is enough with good commanders and no terrain defense bonuses . Nope . Barely took them down a third ...... :(

I had enough cash to hire a small merc crew and raised my vassals . I set up across a river and waited for them once again . About even in strength . They wiped the floor with me .

Although this did cause them to win the war without actually capturing any holdings the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is now sitting in my court . There seem's to be no negative effect and I still have all my holdings ( although I do have the normal negative Prestige from losing ) . And my religion (orthodox) is still the dominant one . Is there any negative effects I am unaware of , other than the religous moral authority perk ?

No, not really. Perhaps the origin province has gotten an extended revolt risk malus, but not much else.
The point is they probably had all horses, and slaughtered you in the skirmish phase. Do you remember what was your army composition?

I think you may be right . I was heavy in the foot soldiers but light on the cavalry . First time I have played in this region so that would make sense . Although how they took me at a major river crossing still annoys me though . Thanks :) .

Evil is right: Horse Archers+Tengri rebellion leader (Martial 14-21ish) makes for a sad day...especially if your troop comp can't match.
