In real life, no DLC is required to play as a Muslim.
I'm not complaining since there's obviously new gameplay added. Just saying is all.

Duh, any need to say it out loud here? Obviously it's post release new gameplay. It adds enough new mechanics to warrant the price IMO.

there are what 30 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DLCs and sure i hate they did that but i spend all my money on buying them because the game is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good i just feel like they deserve it.

Also you do need a DLC to be a Muslim you dont really see people converting nowdays do you ?

Actually there is, but it seems you are not educated enough to know of it's existence.

Stop complaining, get a job and go buy the dlc nobody cares who you are.

Bad logic.

Get a job and buy the DLC. You can probably get 2 hours of minimum wage at McDonalds. Just tell them you want to buy something and need some money and they will probably let you wash some dishes.

just pirate the game

In real life you can't live through 400+ years in 2 weeks either. That's why it's called a video game.

By the way, I think you can play as a Muslim if you conquer a Muslim holding, don't remove the Muslim leige, and then have him or his wife educate your heir. Presto, you're now playing as a Muslim when the current ruler dies.

I did that as a Catholic and converted to Orthodox without realizing it. Boy were my vassals pissed.

Most of these replies can't possibly be missing my point any harder... I shouldn't even humor the really borderline bigoted ones.

I trust your opinion and other people saying the DLC is worth it. What surprises me, though, is the in-game presentation. Why leave the option for a player who doesn't own it to attempt to play as a Muslim faction? Everyone knows the role of Muslims in the Crusades was equally signifcant as any other religion or culture. All the game needs to convey at the starting screen is that they weren't fleshed out as a part of the base game, so they aren't playable, but instead, there is a silly-sounding and redundant message.

The message that is displayed when pressing "play" with an Islamic nation (Not allowed to play Muslim without The Sword of Islam DLC!) pops up like the kind of bait and switch content-locking found in bad mobile games. It doesn't answer any of the questions I might have as a new player about why the vast roles of Muslims in that historical period aren't playable. It doesn't suggest that the DLC contains significantly different gameplay, or that its content wasn't a focus of the initial development so it had to be added as DLC.

If you could've posted this earlier it would've been nice, though this brings up another question: if I were to conquer a Muslim holding and gain control of a Muslim character, without the DLC, would it just use the base game's mechanics? I ask because if you can in fact play as a Muslim, that makes the presentation actually a bit misleading. If the unique mechanics aren't in, but Muslim characters are still playable in some form, why not mention that, and in doing so, let players know the gameplay is expanded in the DLC? I don't know the CKII business model, so maybe the new mechanics are already included in all versions of the game, and the restriction is more about locking specific rulers? (something like Civ V's carrying over religion and units from G&K to BNW, but not the 9 new Civs)

If you're willing to read all of that, I can tell you my basic point of this thread: I don't expect any developer to give a game about "Crusader Kings" a strong Muslim-focused perspective on the Crusades. It's silly that the DLC is brought up in a way that doesn't convey anything other than "you can play as Muslims" or anything even about the gameplay changes involved with said DLC. The mentioning of the DLC as such barely has anything to do the game, and it's equally as irrelevant to the game as this thread's title. This is just my immediate reaction as a first time player who might have considered playing as one of the Muslim options.

This thread was a totally civil way of discussing a point about the game that should be incredibly obvious to anyone with knowledge of the game and the crusades. Don't blame me or lock this discussion for the bigoted comments. That's how the trolls win.

Christ, guys, this definitely isn't a religious discussion.

Honestly i'm okay with the old gods character creator and the Old Gods dlc but I thought it was a bit silly to buy a dlc so we can play as the second larget religion in game :/
Mormacil Aug 28, 2014 @ 11:27pm
Except the Indian religions are larger and also unplayable without DLC ;)
