[TUTORIAL] How to put it in 1920x1080
1. Go in your videocard settings. (NVIDIA control Panel or AMD Catalyst)
2. Select Display > Change Resolution
3. Press customize and make a custom resolution to 2880 x 1620 and apply it.
4. Be sure the windows is now at this resolution, sometime it go back to the previous one instantly and you need to reapply it.
5. Start F1 Race Stars.
6. The resolution should show more resolutions INCLUDING 1920x1080.
7. Select it then put back your windows resolution to normal (I assume it's 1920x1080.)

The devs seems to blame the drivers, but it is not, there's clearly a problem with their hardware auto detect. And this is a pure example how it SHOULD NOT be implanted in any game.

Some may don't know what's resolution it is but hey, it's less trouble to the devs to explain how to change it instead of putting a broken hardware auto-detect.

I really like Codemasters, they are really good for racing games (Overload series is a must too).
But THIS is too much lol.

So please Codemasters, fix this or just remove the autodetect and let us choose the resolution how we want.

You should put the configs in a .ini or .txt files instead of XML. Way more simple i case of faulty hardware auto-detect function.

Thanks, and for those who have AMD, this bug happen on AMD GPU too, i just don't have AMD catalyst so i can't say how to do it step by step bbut it might help.
Anyone who can explain it for AMD feel free to do.

*Gonna put how to do it using AMD Catalyst here in case someone can explain for it as the UI is different.*

When trying to do this I always get the message that my monitor does not support this res. Which is obviously true. Is there a way to force the 2880x1620 res?

GTX 260, 310.70 installed, Samsung P2450

My monitor isn't supposed to support it either but i was able to.

It's hardware detection via the DVI cable that this game has issues with. I got a duel monitor tv setup and i noticed that when the tv is active (connection via hdmi) the res is 1080 on both screens, when i turn off the tv and go back to a single monitor that's connected via dvi then it reverts back to that other, smaller res. Plug the hdmi cable into the monitor and the game works in 1080 again.

I'm quite sure its bad hardware detection via the dvi connection that's doing it.

Mmm interesting. Finally we got useful infos for a possible fix,

I also have multiple monitor using DVI, even single monitor it wasn't fine.

Just ordered an HDMI cable online and i'm gonna test it i guess lol.

NP, took me a while to discover this small fix. Simple but working fine!

I dont see how to do this on ati. ATI uses AMD VISION Engine Control Center now and I dont see the options on creating a custom resolution.

OP. thanks for the solution! I tried the demo several months ago and was unable to set to 1920x1080. It works now, thank you! To the above poster, this has nothing to do with DVI in my case, I strictly use HDMI and only have one monitor. To the devs, THANKS FOR NOT ADDRESSING THIS, IT'S NICE TO KNOW YOU GUYS ARE HARD AT WORK ON THIS AFTER 4 MONTHS!!! Why don't you spend some more time on DLC to ♥♥♥♥ us with?!?!?! F U!!!! This is a game specific issue, because this is the only game I have experienced this on with more than 40+ games... Thank god this was on sale. In a world where 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 are the most common resolutions for gaming I wonder what else you are putting in your crackpipe, because this is AWFUL!

Yup, agree on that.
Hardware reconizing should'nt have to hide the resolution you apparently can't display as this one fail to detect so it's not allow you to put your true sresolution.

Shame for Codemasters.

Got full-HD TV with HDMI, but I can't fool my nVidia with higher resolution trick. Could somebody use ProcMon tool by sysinternals.com to spy on F1 Race Stars to find out where 1920x resoultion is stored? 1) do resolution trick with desktop 2) launch the game 3) get back to desktop and launch ProcMon 4) Add F1RaceStars to filter 5) Switch 1920x in game (Exit and check ProcMon for file/registry writes).

No need to use that for.

The resolution save in a XML file. Even if it's modified to 1920x1080, and Read Only.
The game will still run it's crappy hardware detection and won't really take in consideration with the 1920x1080.

The game will see its 1920x1080 but will run the broken hardware autodetect to see if you can truly display it. So it fail to detect and you get another resolution that the game display normally.

What's the full-HD TV? I can also manage to put that custom res for a Full-HD TV aqnd the trick still work for it.

I'm a bit nervous about doing this to a standard HDTV, as I have. I do not have a PC monitor. Does anyone know if this can actually cause damage to the TV? They certainly have a bunch of scary warnings under the customize options in the NVIDIA control panel. I don't even need 1920x1080 to be happy. I'd just like one 16:9 ratio as an option! And I can confirm that this is not DVI-related, since I use an HDMI connection.

I also find it pretty frustrating that the game often opens with the window not centered on my screen, and I have to close and restart the game. I assumed this has something to do with using 150% text, since that prevents me from playing Civ 5 in fullscreen mode to this day.

I done that fix on a PC monitor and an HDTV too so it's fine.

I'd like to respond that this worked for me as well. My TV suffered no damage, as the NVIDIA warnings seem to suggest it might. And I'm finally playing the game in my TV's native resolution.
