There are some things that Sega did to make Episode II better compared with the first episode. However there were some drawbacks as well. The new game engine they used is better than the one in the first episode. However, in my opinion the level design is not as good as Episode I. Fortunately the boss battles are more fresh and different compared to the previous installment. The Episode Metal that is unlocked if you have downloaded both Episodes I & II is mediorce at best. It just reuses 4 levels from Episode I except you play as Metal Sonic.
As with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I, I feel this game is about the same quality as that one, which is good. However, I feel Sega could have polished up these episodes a bit more before release. I still believe Sega was trying to rake-in as much money as possible by releasing Sonic the Hedgehog 4 into two games. It worked well for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles with the lock-on ability, but they didn't attempt to do anything close to that with Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Good game, but too short. As I suggested with my review of Episode I, I would probably wait until this one goes on sale before buying.
