Just played a little of the game...

Got to the first part with the Cyclops and the beer keg.

I fought the Cyclops, although I didn't really fight him, I fought other things.

I had no idea how much HP anything had, people of mine died after many, many turns and I did eventually win. I saw a Snake with 30 health, according to the tooltip, but my guy hit him for 145 and didn't die.

I saw red damage numbers as well as other white-ish numbers during damage phases. No idea what is what.

Not sure of the reason behind choosing who I wanted to be, because I never get to use them in fights?

Nothing seems to be explained and I feel as though I have no idea what I should be looking for or looking at during combat.

Would anyone care to take some time to explain a few things to help out a noob to the game?

It means, that the group of snakes contains all snakes with full health except one - which has 30 health

red means how many units died, while "whitish" indicate the damage dealt

It influences just your masteries (you get 1 extra mastery depending on your class), and also influences the amount of the talent runes you get with each level.
