Before you buy read this THIS IS NOT TOMB RAIDER
This is a cross between Far Cry 3, search the island and hunt animals for upgrades, Batman Arkham Asylum, hit the Q button to see hidden objects and useable items, and a FPS, take your pick. The tombs are simple puzzles that a third grader could figure out and the game is way too short Approx: 16-20 hours if you want all the items. I LOVED TOMB TOMB RAIDER and all the games!

When you get beyond all the GREAT graphics, sounds, and story, you have a VERY WEAK game that has very little to do with the ACTUAL TOMB RAIDER games!

Sorry to disagree with the original poster. They took gread ideas from batman and other games, but it is still tomb raider.
I like it a lot...

It's a reboot of the series, and as a fan of the old games, I like the direction they are going with this game, I found it really fun and I couldnt put it down. and as for the game being short, now a days 16-20 hours is fairly decent for a game like this, Uncharted 2 is considered one of the best games out there and its only 10 hours long.

Its not supposed to be like the old tomb raider thats why its a reboot...

The "weak" part is your opinion, I personally had a blast all the way through. And of course it's not the old Tomb Raider games, if I wanted to play TR1, I'd buy TR1. Change is good. There's whining everywhere about Resident Evil, about Splinter Cell, about Max Payne. But I played all three (four with Tomb Raider) of these series thoroughly, and I love how they reinvented themselves.

The game was in no way advertised as a classic TR game, it was quite obvious from the get go that it would be a reimagining of the series. Stop being blinded by nostalgia and start enjoying new games for their own value, or if you can't, at the very least don't try to keep people from doing so.

It IS Tomb Raider. This is what Tomb Raider will be from now on. It's a reboot of the series, which gives the dev some free rein to tweak the mechanics of it. Having said that, I was actually surprised at how closely it stuck to the old TR formula. Sure, the platforming was a bit more fluid and more quickly paced, and the combat was more controlled and less arcadey. But all in all, I feel that the game fits very well into the Tomb Raider series. Apart from anything else though, this is a story not about raiding tombs and ancient artifacts, like the Tomb Raider of old, but about a character, and how she develops into what we know her to be, and that's something I think the old TR games didn't quite touch on before.

More to the point, lets face it, if a game with TR1's mechanics was released today, it would be an absolute failure. Gaming has progressed (for better or worse), and naturally, like with any long running series, TR has progressed with it. It just so happens that, in my opinion, this is a very natural and acceptable progression for the series to take.

This is an amazing Tomb Raider reboot, and I honestly hope these devs continue the series for a long time to come.

I love you so much.

It's far more Tomb Raider than the last few abominations they put out.

I agree this is a great game, i havn't played all the past games in the franchise as i just couldn't get into them.

This game on the other hand i have really enjoyed and it ressembles uncharted , which i will miss since i've turned my attention to pc gaming and this game has sealed the deal.

it looks flawless and i'm hooked can't wait for sequels and addons :-)

Lara you now have my full attention :-)

Im an avid fan of Tomb Raider, infact a month ago, I polished of the old CD's and pulled out TR1&2 and introduced my boy to the game that started it all.

From a pro TR gamer (yea big claim, but its a fact) Im sorry, but i'l have to politely dissagree with the original poster, this game is all about how Lara became the girl protagonist we all know and love. I think the dev's have done a fantastic job at bringing back the old gameplay.

And if you really want to get picky, the likes of Far Cry and BM:AA/AC are actually shadows of the original TR!.

THE only difference is the "hunting" aspect, and even then that really just for achevements and XP. everything gameplay about this new TR is the same as the old, you have climbing, swinging, jumping puzzles, searching for treasure, shooting bad guys/things, the only diference is the graphics and absolutly cracking story! top marks!

Come to think about it, when you say "I LOVED TOMB TOMB RAIDER and all the games!", do you meen the original 1990's games (of which this one reflects VERY WELL) or the s**t they came up with a few years ago ;)

I really wish people would stop confusing FPSs with TPSs. Tomb Raider has Third person Shooting.

Really, Tomb Raider has influenced so many games that it doesn't bother me to see it come full circle and have those games influence Tomb Raider.

This game turned out great and CD got the mix damned close to perfect.

PLUS, Lara Croft KICKS ♥♥♥♥!
