Patched ruined TressFX
It was awesome in the original release build. Looked very natural and realistic. Now, it looks awful and static.

If anyone at CD is reading this, PLEASE revert back to the original TressFX settings.

Check if TressFX was accidentaly disabled. Otherwise you can go back to the release build (as they said in the patch notes) by opening the properties of Tomb Raider and check the beta tab and the beta-dropdownlist. Choose the 716.5 build.

But instead try to disable and re-enable the features first because it hasn't changed for me.

I don't know what you're talking about Pokeadot?

TressFX looks great with this new patch, the invisible barrier is gone so the hair is no longer floating above Lara's back/shoulders. It looks much more realistic and fluid now.

They aren't the same, but I kinda like how it is now. Obviously just a difference of opinion so neither of us is right (yet both are) but I like the fact that it's not quite as fluid as it was. A pony tail wants to be in one position: back and down. It's simply not normal for one to end up splayed across the shoulders.

I agree that individual strands are no longer rendered fully but I don't really mind that. It's still better than the original and now I don't get crazy framerate dips in cutscenes while still enjoying a more realistic experience.

Yes, I'm not an idiot. There is a very clear difference in how it was pre and post patch. There are less individual strands of hair making it appear as if some are just glued together in place. It looks far less realistic than it was.

They changed it, I'm guessing, because people said it looked weird. Well, it only looked jarring because people aren't used to seeing realistically modelled hair in games. Now, it's far less realistic. I really enjoyed this feature and it has now been neutered.

You can revert back to the old patch. Read, read, read, read, read.

Previously the hair would float 2 inches above lara's shoulders. Now it falls inside her back.

No, they changed it because there was a HUGE performance impact for what amounts to a minor feature on all systems.

On my overclocked HD 7950 enabling TressFX before prevented reasonable framerates in cutscenes and I had to play without FXAA, tesselation, and a most of the other advanced features just to do it. Now I get good enough framerates to enable FXAA and one or two other advanced features without a significant loss of fidelity.

I stress the word significant in the last sentence; the way it is now is still quite a bit better than Normal hair and miles better than most games that have come out recently. Really the only other game that had physics driven hair that I've played recently was The Witcher 2 and it was far and away worse than even this new version of TressFX.

They changed it because only a tiny minority of players could achieve stable, high framerates with it on across the board and compromised only some of the benefits of the system.

That hair was never realistic looking to begin with. Looks a lot better now.

It messed up the tressfx on my system as well. Before the patch there was no problem, now my performance has dropped to 5 fps, and the hair looks like a brown smudge.

Same for me TressFX pre-patch gave me a drop of around 5fps but was still running at around 30 fps minimum on benchmark. Since patch if TressFX is turned on my FPS ranges from minimum 1 and maximum of 5. Its just a slide show. On the other hand with TressFX turned off I have significant increase in FPS compared to pre-patch. One step forward, 2 steps back.

The new patch ruined my game performence too. I have in the main menu 33 Freams. in Benchmark 15-17 Freams. Before the patch I had 33-34. Now Laras Hair has Graphic gliches. It changed and changed the hair colour. please fix the peformence and not relase DLC. Please fix at first the game.
The game has still many many performence problems.

Last Nvidia Drive is already installed, as always.

My system:

Try rolling back your driver to 310.90. I've read that several glitches, including crashing, tesselation, and other things can be solved by rolling back to that driver version, at least until Nvidia releases a properly optimized driver sometime in the future.
