TR is a heavily stylised arcade style adventure, and it's great!
From Tetris to Skyrim, there is a gradient NOT a set of markers that must be adhered to. 'Simplistic' does not inherently mean 'unintelligent', just as 'in-depth', 'open-world', or 'sandbox' do not mean 'superior' by default.

Many of you need to check your egos and realise that tastes differ, and just because you don't enjoy the style of this game it doesn't mean you're somehow better or that this game is inferior to your refined tastes.

Tomb Raider does what it does, and it does it well. If you don't like this style of cinematic, linear adventure then that's perfectly fine, but it certainly doesn't make you more intelligent.

Well i can say comming over from consoles to steam, this game is amazing! graphijcs are sweet and in the style of uncharted which i also loved . Heres to more Tomb Raider in this style of gameplay and more single player dlc.

I think i'm comming to the end of the campaign, but i can go back i find the hidden stuff.

Yet to try mp generally not really that good at online but will prob give it a bash at sompoint once i've tuned my aiming skills.

Nice one devs great game :-) first tombraider i haven't been able to put down ,

can anyone recommend any other good lara games.

If you haven't tried it, Far Cry 3 is a slightly different style of game that has a very similar feel.

It's a shame that threads focusing on the negative get more response than those that focus on the positive.

This game is really well made, and a delight to play.

I think the problem is that a lot of people where expecting Skyrim with Lara Croft, I personally have no problem with the game being semi-linear. Now the graphical glitches.... :) Still, I give it 8.5/10

Not sure why anyone would expect a sandbox. That's not what the series is about.

I think the issue is more that some consider sandbox to be superior by default. It's not, it's a stylistic choice.

Shame about that. For the most part sandbox gaming bores me to tears. It has to be executed with some coherent structure to not turn into an aimless mess, and rarely is.

I'm not sure if 'Arcade' is the right word to describe these games anymore. These games have very little in common with arcade games.

It has many arcade style aspects. It's definitely the right word. :)

I think the issue Barney Google has, is that you're applying the term "arcade" relatively and not literally, but not making that especially clear. The game involves shooting guns and not just environment traversal, so it has action and that can be considered synonymous with "arcadey" gaming, but the implementation of every feature in the game is anything but arcade, making it neither a completely poor nor especially good way to describe the gameplay.

For the record I do agree with the sentiment in your post though.

For the record I do agree with the sentiment in your post though.

It's a very accurate way to describe it.

Climbing sections using the same colours/blocks each time.
Salvage crates/ammo boxes scattered around like collectible power ups.
The way the game moves you forward with waves of enemies descending on you in formation.

It's very much like the style of Far Cry 3, with its flashing highlights for interactive items.

It almost feels like its on the rails like House of The Dead at times, and the way the UI flashes over the environment and the interactive elements are placed and collected. It feels /very/ arcade like.

It sure feels like House of the Dead at times all right. In that it has guns, and buttons. You're really stretching thin on this lol.

No, I'm not.

As I mentioned, it's the way that certain aspects have very similar styles.

Like when you move into a new area and the camera pans around to give you an overview, and the enemies swarm in from the top of the screen, it has a very similar feeling in terms of pacing and style.

Arcade Games feel urgent and constantly moving, and Tomb Raider very much feels like this.

And the collectibles, and duck and cover mechanics, etc...

I'm not stretching a point, you're missing it, ;)

That's what Im saying, for some reason a lot of people are complaining that the game is not sandbox style. TR has never been that kind of game.
