Turn it off, it's a horrible effect. Looks ridiculous, ignores all recognizable physics, and just doesn't look anywhere near as stylistically pleasing as the standard hair. At least, imo...

Anyway...

With everything max and tress on: avg 44-50fps
With everything max and tress off: avg 70-90fps

i5 2500k@4.1ghz and 670.

55-60 fps with it on in areas that are not shantys and beach (areas which appear to be more open world). those areas anywhere from 30-60 depending on which direction the camrea is facing.

I would be on Ultimate if i could have tesselation on w/o the game crashing.

I love the hair effect and prefer it over claymation looking standard hair.

I have the game running on Ultimate setting which of course has TressFX on and am getting 39.6 fps game plays smooth as butter and I prefer the hair effect.

Wow, So I overlooked the part where I need to update my drivers... with my drivers updated... it went up to a AVG: 26 and HIGH: 33.9 not to bad. I hope even new drivers make it better.

Seems like what I am rocking ha. 26 avg is not bad at all though. Very rare when it stutters.

AMD cannot develop anything good; tressFX rofl - yeah that will compete with PhysX.. -laughs- REALISTIC HAIR THAT LOOKS FAKE AND BLOWS THE WRONG DIRECTION IN THE WIND!

actually looks like its under-water even with AMD cards.

AMD is behind on the times.

Ultra with Tessellation and Tress: 55-62/63ish FPS.
Ultra with Tessellation without Tress: 105-120Vsync
Ultra without Tessellation and with Tress: 85-100FPS
Ultra without Tessellation and without Tress: 120 Vsynch, or 275-450ish FPS with Vsync off.

I am getting Highs of 62fps and lows of 30fps with a Gigabyte OC GTX660ti. But I have to say I am not sure what all the fuss is about. Whilst it improves the vista and Lara's hair, I actually think her hair move un-naturally and is not worth the massive frame loss just to see her wonderful locks swing in the breeze.

Your preference is noted but I don't see what the point of a 62 fps rate is over a better visual at a lower rate when your eye can't even see the difference of that high a frame rate. As long as there is no lag I'll take better visuals and a lower frame rate any day. Of course since you don't think the hair looks better with TressFX you might prefer the higher frame rate which you cannot see.

i would have to agree with this. I would love better visuals with no lag regardless the number. I don't see a point in 60 fps, if it looks like junk... Yes her hair isn't perfect... but it is better than not moving at all...

Just downloaded the beta drivers lets see how that works.

39.6fps is nowhere near "smooth as butter. Compare it to a solid 60fps and you'll see a very clear difference.

Locking your refresh rate to your fps is one of the MAIN reasons why PC gaming is superior to consoles.

The idea that you can't see more than 30fps is a complete myth. I can very clearly see a HUGE difference if my framerate drops below a stable 60fps for a significant amount of time.

Smooth framerate is absolutely inherent to "better visuals".

The dfiference between 30fps and 60fps is like night and day, and the difference between stable 60fps and fps that dips is very clear to see too.

Disagree. It looks like future tech that will one day be great, but currently suffers from that "uncanny valley" problem. It's trying too hard to be "real", and code simply cannot emulate life without looking strange.

That's why the hair looks so unnatural. It's trying too hard to be real and our current level of tech simply can't do it well enough.
