AMD TressFX Detailed!
Basically it's new hair tech that's going to be used in the new Tomb Raider.

http://blogs.amd.com/play/tressfx/

And unlike Nvidia with PhysX it's not exclusive to AMD. AMD has said any DX11 card can use it.

"TressFX will definitely work on any DirectCompute-enabled device. This has roots in the core of Gaming Evolved, where we want to enable technology for all gamers, and not create proprietary features that lock out gamers that use our competitor's products.

Interesting. Will definitely be comparing it to hair physics in Alice Madness Returns.

Is this the ultra secret PC bonus that was advertised?

So...since I have a gtx 570, can I use the hair feature? Cause, if I can, a tip-o-the-at to you AMD. If not, you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s!

There already is destructable environments. It's not Red Faction or anything, but it's there.

If you read the entire post, you'd have seen he already answered your question. ANY DX11 card can use it. AMD or Nvidia.

I'm sad AMD didn't work on BoobFX or even "real-time beard physics" but a man can hope. :P

TechReport AMD TressFX gives Lara Croft realistic hair[techreport.com]

I suspect there's more to come, too. The AMD blog page refers to this new tech as TressFX Hair, opening the door for other effects to join the family.

This feature is not a big deal, but it does make her hair look a TON better than the ugly, partially static and mucky textured hair without TressFX. Adding realism like this just makes Lara's character model feel better to play with... wait, uh, I mean... Hey, who's that guy^^^

Wow, the hair looks GREAT in the screen shots of tressfx. For more than a decade now, I've been disapointed with how terrible hair looks even in the best of games. Like the blog post points out, developers just deal with this by making the hair short and ugly, or just in a tight bun (Mass Effect series comes to mind). Some newer games add limited hair movement but it still looks very stifff (RE5 and RE6).

I'm still disapointed that Lara's hair is in a pony-tail though. I wish she had a hairstyle where her hair was all let down. I doubt that will happen in this Tomb Raider.

A pony tail is her signature look man. Can't get rid of that, especially when she's running around killing people and solving puzzles. Letting her hair down just wouldn't be realistic, in terms of this game or real life, and would be a severe annoyance to her. Just sayin.....
